Official Panthers at Falcons GameDay Thread!

Huddle will overreact as usual, but you can’t tell me the Falcons are that much better than the Panthers.

Bryce look composed but made two bad rookie decisions

Offensive line played relatively well

Lack of playmakers on the outside really hurt. Hopefully Chark fixes that, but unfortunately Bryce’s top target for his career isn’t in this team right now.

Defense was good until the end, but run defense needs to be addressed

Our team is still talent deficient. Our WRs are definitely a problem, people running wrong routes or not being on the same page as Bryce is unacceptable. We have the QB position down, now we need to build around him and get some real talent!

Yeah, I'm not giving up on Young. I did see a few good things from him today. The biggest issue is PLAYMAKERS at WR. We have not had a true playmaker since Smitty. Guys need to start emerging. I'm hoping Mingo becomes that dog! That's what Bryce, this team needs.

Didn’t say he was a bust just that his arm is weak and he lacks zip Ann accuracy on deep throws

Watch out. I mentioned his arm strength looked questionable during a preseason game and got poo on a ton. Not saying it isn't strong enough to be an adequate NFL QB, but you want more than that when trading up to #1.

You said he doesn't have an NFL arm.  A QB without a "NFL arm" drafted at 1 would be considered a bust.  He may not have an elite arm, but it is more than enough for the NFL.

We will see but today it wasn’t good enough.   He was floating passes and throws longer then 10ish yards were pretty godawful

He is trying to say Young doesn't have a NFL arm.  Typical Huddler overreacting to a game.  Young is a bust we should have drafted AR (who left hurt) yada yada yada....

The problems we saw today (going for it unnecessarily, making a horrible call while going for it unnecessarily, no WR separation, listless offense) are probably gonna be issues all year.

Other than a couple bad reads and 2 missed throws, Young was fine for a rookie QB. He just has abysmal weapons around him and that impacts any player. If he had Steve Smith to throw to instead of Adam Thielen, that would help. Leaning on Jeremy Shockey and Greg Olsen would also make life easier, as would handing off to DeAngelo and Stewart.

Instead, he's surrounded by an OL that played better than expected, an abysmal offensive game plan, a free-agent Rb whose lone impact play was a lost fumble, and a room of one promising rookie and a slew of replacement-level WRs.

Removing all that from consideration, the 2-minute give-up offense of running it on 2nd and 20 was ridiculous. Don't expect any comeback this year, because it appears there's no plan for that.

    • Bryce isn't a risk-taking gunslinger.  That's just QB DNA.  No one has ever said that is what we were drafting when we went that route.  That's my point.  That's not Bryce. Can you make Alex Smith throw deep? Sure.  He will occasionally.  In the reverse, can you ask Brett Favre to just take the easy layups? Sure.  He can in moments.  But in the end, they are what they are.  as I have said, Canales probably could win more games with PJ Walker.  And Bryce is a better overall QB than PJ.  PJ Walker would also have much worse games mixed in that Bryce would.
    • From what i see, Canales offense requires a QB that is willing to take chances to maximize the offense. XL is also the kind of receiver that needs a qb to be risky to bring out his full potential. Its just a matter of if Bryce is gonna be that QB.
    • Baker just played how Baker played.... everywhere but here. He is a risk taking gunslinger.  Always has been.  And last year was asked to be what he was.   Geno Smith was the best deep ball passer in the NFL his comeback season.  Wasn't even close that year.  Again, that's the type passer Canales has always been around in the offenses he has been part of.  The pass game that compliments the stubborn run is the deep chunk play pass game.   And that was his first investment with XL.  My continued point, is the same as going into last season.  It's a bad marriage going in.  The QB doesn't fit the scheme.  Again.  Carrol/Fox/Ron....all paired up their boring football with risk taking QBs.  And again, I'm fine if that is where we are going.  It's not my preference but that's not my argument.  I'm saying if we are doing that, we need a QB that matches it.
