Hot Take? That Was A Positive Game For Us

I'm kinda surprised to see everyone losing it right now, especially given how down on the team I was after last week.  But I think this game was a huge step forward for us compared to how bad we looked in the first two games.

If we didn't look so bad the first two games, I don't think people would be all that upset right now.  Seattle in the rain is about the hardest place to play in this league and sure, not everything was great, but we still put up 27 points on them and our defense kept them in check for most of the game.  It's not surprising that a playoff team from last year with a HOF coach was able to wear us down and figure out how to put up points in the second half, this was always an expected loss coming into the season.

The false start penalties are absolutely frustrating, but in that environment and the way many of them happened, it was clear that it was communication problems and not just bad mental errors, they'll work on it and I'm not concerned moving forward.

The most concerning thing to me was how much better the offense looked with Dalton in there than Bryce, especially with him losing Mingo as well.  He just looked "NFL competent" out there, something Bryce didn't and scares me moving forward with him, but that's not the point of this thread.

The other thing that has me worried is health though, our guys are dropping like flies out there, not good.

Can we put this into perspective? They played against one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL that plays a lot of zone and not man to man. That’s why you saw more open receivers. You don’t think Bryce would have hit most of them?

I don't think so, Dalton stood in the pocket and took 9-10 qb hits... Young would've seen ghosts during this game imo

I think everyone is tired of acting like we are some crash victim learning to walk again. Every week we are AMAZED at the great progress our team is making! These are professional athletes, not some kids on an island we're teaching to read. We just suck ass and it's annoying hearing people baby them.

Our big superstar who wants 30M, because 27M wasn't enough (he has to feed his family, after all) straight bitched out and disappeared/quit today. But at least he stayed healthy, that's a positive, great progress!

And the Saints or Falcons would have picked Dalton off a couple of times.  Dalton made several bad throws in the second half when receivers were open and he had time.  The weather might have been a problem, but he didn't play well.

Not a chance. Dalton made several tough throws today under heavy pressure. No way Bryce would have been able to make half of them without panicking.

I'll tell ya why no ones happy.

Our #1 overall pick had zero to do with offensive improvement.

Our top 10 pick from the year prior is rumored to have just had another false Start Penalty.

Our top 10 pick from the year before that is on the sideline again made of glass.

Our defense took a definite step back and its because we're down our top 2 CBs, our top 2 MLBs, and our top Safety.

I want to have optimism, but its just not there right now.  If Bryce had been the guy who threw for 300 and a couple TDs the optimism would be off the charts, but everyone knows Dalton isnt the future so his meaningless stats mean nothing to us.

So tired of these optimistic hit takes.  We played a bad Seattle team today with 8 starters out.  We got beat like a drum.  We racked up a billion penalties, couldn’t put muscle backup OL, had a piss poor defensive game plan, never made positive adjustments, played conservative football, couldn’t run the ball, etc.  we took a step back today.  This team is awful, coaches are awful, GM is awful, and the owner is awful.  We have little draft capital, hardly any pics from prior drafts on the roster, and not a single star player.  We are the worst franchise in the nfl.

    • I get it's subjective and I said "PFF rated him as" one of the top deep ball passers during that time, which is an accurate statement.  They are still a group of professionals that look at film and data in order to make their judgements/ratings.  These people whose data has been incorporated into a lot of teams' staffs view Bryce's deep throws as some of the best in the league during that stretch.  That tells me that he can probably throw a deep pass vs the Huddle's version of he is small and didn't do it his rookie year so he must not be able to.  That and literally seeing him do it just makes me feel he is more than capable of doing so.   Do you think PFF is skewing their opinion to prop up a QB in a bottom tier franchise?  It's just another group's opinion and I feel is pretty respected around the league currently.  It's not the gospel truth or anything.
    • I still remember how happy I was that gettlegut was not the GM once he picked Jones, that was a firing pick and well..... If not for the raiders drafting Clelin Ferrell, it was the biggest draft day mistake in the last 20 some years.
    • He had 251 passing yards. 3 passing touchdowns and 2 rushing touchdowns. All in all a very impressive game. Problem is I do not envision his rushing ability translating like that over the course of the upcoming season. Yeah it will be something to account for from time to time but one it's not sustainable and two you don't want to put his durability to the ultimate test against a motivated defender willing to take a penalty and a fine. And plus with our backfield. Two 1k yard rushers. That's what they're here for. Then we have a much improved WR room. That means Bryce has to elevate those passing numbers substantially. The fact of the matter is regardless of circumstances it did take him 23 games to surpass Kyle Allen's single season passing yardage from 13 games in 2020. And that is not a high bar by any means. Whatever QB tier Bryce ends up in from here amongst his peers this upcoming season when it's all said and done it will be with his arm.
