Is it still just preseason?

Wut? We were a game away from the playoffs last year and came in with an improved roster, a talented rookie #1 overall pick and "coaching staff"

Not expecting improvement is Darin Gantt level looniness

Keep moving those goalposts bud

We were poo last year in a poo division. The "problem" with an improved roster is that a lot of people think that their team's roster is the only one that's improved. There is a reason why Vegas had us as the bottom of the NFCS this year, and yet many Huddlers just kept singing the same tune. No one has moved any goalposts. I told you guys in August that I saw 7-10 as our ceiling (unless things went unexpectedly smooth)---hell, I started a thread about it. There was way too much newness and inexperience going on to have such great expectations this season. Many people said so, including @Mr. Scot. When Scot and I are in step on something, it's probably right. You talk of improvement, you're damned right I expect improvement, but "improvement" is subjective, especially within the context of season to season. Expecting a young team with a rookie QB and coaches---some newly promoted from lower level positions---trying to mesh philosophies together into an established plan is not going to happen without growing pains.

As an aside, I was skeptical of the Reich hire and said so at the time. So, the thought of "all-star coaching staff" didn't really move me.

We have over 2 centuries of coaching experience and right now, this team is playing on par with Rhule last year. If I didn't know we had a new head coach, I would think this was year 4 of the Rhule Era.

When will Frank Reich unleash his secret playbook?

I tried to warn the huddle when he was hired

A cast-off coach is has bad has a cast off QB , I only wanted Payton because he wasn't fired , and was respected and legitimate, but he isn't doing Denver any favors. So I will eat Crow on that one, but we are still left without a competent head coach

CJ Stroud was pretty terrible in preseason. Justin Fields was pretty good. The Bears defense in preseason got tons of sacks.

So yes, it’s just preseason still applies.

You need reps though.  Cam was pretty terrible his first preseason. But he was getting lots of reps to head into the season. Frank treated Bryce Young and this O like a seasoned, good, and established O.

that part never made much sense.

I 100% agree more reps = good. I think teams are still trying to figure out the secret sauce with the new preseason format. They wanted the joint practices to be the thing but it’s clearly not working.

I feel ya, but just to add a little something to think about to that perspective, is anyone on our coaching staff an outstanding and sustained winner over those two centuries of coaching experience, or have they just been so-so, or hanging on the coattails of others? Real question (I haven't done the research).

Apparently, us "inferior" fans were right to think that our preseason performance was a cause for concern. You see ALL of them have just vanished now.

I was flamed for saying we wouldn't win in the regular season if we didn't win in preseason and its only because of how poor the offense looked all preseason.

It was bad in the preseason. Zero effort, goofing around on the sidelines, just showing up because they had to be there. People who didn’t recognize a problem weren’t thinking critically. Or are just blind homers.

I got BANNED for a week for saying that Bryce wasn't going to be all that everyone was making him out to be. He's allegedly above average in one area and that's processing. Put Bryce Young on any school other than Alabama and he's a 4th round pick.

fuging garbage man.

    • That's likely going to tell the story. He'll have two weeks to prepare, so no excuses.
    • You don't rotate offensive linemen dude shown me one time thats happened for us that wasnt because of a player leaving due to injury or a jumbo package ill wait.
    • I didn't say I thought throwing it was a bad decision, I said I thought not running those 3-5 yard routes to pick up the 1st down wasn't a great call.  Yes the play worked out, but I didn't love the play call, it's like when a bad shooter is taking a 3 and you're yelling "no no no" as they're going up and then they make it so it worked out. That's still gambling on them to make the play and I take no issue with that. But I just went and watched the play again, we had T-Mac and XL running downfield crossing routes, Coker went in motion behind the LOS and then moved up a yard or two after the snap but not even past the LOS, Sanders chipped the DE and then ran a drag route right long the LOS. The play worked out, but I don't really like that particular play call and route tree with the game on the line on a 4th and 2.  If you want to send one route downfield as an option that's fine, but there were only 2 realistic target options with that route tree and they were both 15-20 yards downfield. This is just before Bryce is going to throw it.   You have 2 players off screen downfield, one player who ran a route that never had a chance to get open and didn't even get to the 1st down line, another player just at the line to gain but late in the route because of a chip (and the worst pass catcher of the 4). Do you really think that was a "good play call" in that situation?
