Reich wants to simplify playbook for Bryce

You can have the best processing super computer in the world but if you don't fill it with accurate data, it will not work.

The way Bryce plays is mainly focused on prediction and anticipation of the what the defense is doing.  This is true for any Qb that that throws to a spot, like Brady or Brees.  Right now, a large part of the dataset in his head is being upgraded from college to the NFL and a lot of that data comes from playing in live games.  It called experience.

Both interceptions in the Atlanta game were from Jessie Bates cheating on his coverage.  The safety was in a place where he was not supposed to be, twice.  Bryce's brain went boom, boom, throw based on the play and coverage.  He doesn't yet have the experience at the NFL level to see and predict how fast the defense can and will go rogue or the heightened ways an NFL defense can fool you.

I think the biggest problem we are having is that Bryce can understand all the detailed nuance of complicated offenses and plays and he can process it extremely fast but doesn't yet have the experience to may it all work in real time on the field.

By simplifying the offense they are going to ask him to make reads that he doesn't have to worry about getting fooled in higher level concepts.

The mistake (in retrospect) the coaching staff made is by coaching and expecting Bryce to play like a 3rd or 4th year Drew Brees and not a Drew Brees in his rookie year.

I thought a big reason we got Reich and McCown bc they were qb and offense gurus, coaches that can make BY9 great and progress him along. We either A: hired the wrong coach, B: drafted the wrong guy of C; both.

C. Just imagine how bad it would be without all the specialized help. Tepper getting fleeced just like he fleeced others to amass his wealth.

SMH. After the BS we were fed in preseason, this is amazing.

All you the preseason doesn’t matter guys were completely wrong. Young should have been playing tons more snaps. Our vanilla poo hasn’t fooled anyone but to basically say that Young has regressed means that we screwed up when we barely played him in the preseason when he had gobs of opportunities to learn. Yes, he’s regressed. We were told that he was making all the OL calls and that he was soaking in everything so fast that they gave him more. Either those were all lies or Reich is just plain terrible.

I dont think it's any indictment on Bryce (not saying you said it was) but overall I agree with this. I was pretty disheartened with how much our young offense got to play in the preseason. Definitely felt like they approached that wrong. Feels like they over shot themselves on how good we were supposed to be this year with our rookie qb versus accepting reality and making sure we bring our rookie along by any means necessary. Meaning playing meaningful snaps in all 3 preseason games which didn't happen. If they wanted to "hide our scehemes" so we could win more games then they should have sat Bryce for Dalton.

Honestly, step one is probably just taking away his audible power for awhile. Let him focus on simply reading the defense pre-snap. Instead of trying to read the D plus get us into the right play. Just force him to run the play as called.

    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
    • Well, if they know Tepper wants to keep Bryce there is an an implied safety net there in case he fails. A possibility that he will be empathetic and •maybe• not fire them.  If they go against that and bring in someone else and that fails they are in a much worse spot.  IMO.  And another factor may be that after all those years of instability and musical chairs pre Bryce there will likely be a feeling of security in knowing what they have.   Kind of like settling just to keep from going through the process all over again.     IOW I think he really needs to fug up bad to lose his job and change our course.
