Recency bias will play a role in this response. Also some people aren’t even old enough to remember 2001.

Having watched all 3 teams I never went into a game in 2001 thinking we didn’t have a chance to win. That team lost a ton of close games and was better than this year’s team and 2010.

2010 and 2023 are very close for me. I’d have to give the slight edge to this year being the worst because the 2010 roster had some talent and some of those players went on to play on the good teams between 2013 and 2016-17.

From a talent standpoint, 2023 is the worst team in franchise history and would have finished 0-17 if not for two miracle drives at the end of games. Only team in league history to not hold a 4th quarter lead. Yeah, that does it for me.

2010 was the worst team. I suspect 2023 will get more votes due to recency bias.

That 2010 team had an even worse offense than this 2023 group. I fondly remember watching those games and knowing that the game was over once the other team managed to score 14 (or more). The 2010 group only broke the 20pt barrier twice and never scored 30 (or more).

Meanwhile, the 2023 group broke the 20pt barrier 4 times and managed a single 30 point game. Even with 2 shutouts to end the season they still managed more points per game than the 2010 squad.

Yep.

2001 was a brutal season to watch, mostly because of all the close losses. Six losses by 3 points or less, and two more by 4-6 points.

anyone that says 01 or 2010 must not have actually been around for those seasons. We at least had the hope of having the first pick. The fact that all of this failure and embarrassment without something in return is enough to be the worst season ever.

don't forget about all the Tepper crap throughout the season.

don't forget that this was a brand new all star stuff, not an old staff waiting for the inevitable.

and the cherry on top, Bryce. the most disappointing first round pick in sports history.

2023 was not only the worst season in Panthers history, but in sports history.

2023 Panthers were SHUT OUT the last 2 games of the season. We have a clueless overbearing egomaniac owner who gave us a new reason to hate something else every week. 2023 had maybe 6 or 7 players that look like they’re trying. Of those, only Hubbard, Thielen, Brown and Luvu have seemed impervious to the malaise. Maybe something changes, but this current squad is a special breed of awful.

That 2008 team could have been a legit title contender if Jake's arm held out a month longer. He had been clutch all season, the running game was the best we ever had, Steve and Moose were as dynamic as ever.

Really and truly, Delhomme would have run us to the Super Bowl again. He was stellar that season and had one great team around him. Then Jonathan Vilma's helmet...

I really didn't like that 2010 team, mostly because of Fox essentially shrugging his shoulders and telling us to take it up with the personnel department. You just can't be that way if you are the person in charge. The thing is, I still watched that terrible team. I actively didn't watch Panther games this season. There was nothing positive, nothing good, that would compel me to sit through an entire game.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
