Burns to Detroit?

Recommended Posts

Would be very interesting. Despite what this board and twitter tell you Burns is still very highly regarded in the league and while we may not get the Rams offer (two firsts and a third). I think if we opened the bidding war we could get from detroit

1st Pick 29

3rd Pick 92

Then a future 2nd or 3rd round pick pending how negotiations went.

For the record i would still try like hell to sign Burns but if his guys tell you under the table he isn't re-signing longterm here then by all means trade him, don't get nothing for him

Not gonna lie, I would make more effort to trade him to Detroit for 9 and the 29th than trying to keep him (not that I wouldn't try to keep him under a sensible number). The thought of productive reunion of Bryce and his main receiver is just too tantalizing for me, and that 29th would just take the sting of simply losing Burns away. I can almost taste this delicious trade.

Jameson and their 1st rounder

Then send that 1st rounder to the 49ers or Bengals for Aiyuk or Higgins and sign them to an extension.

Aiyuk, Thielen, Jameson, Mingo would be a real nice Top 4

That's a Madden trade. No one is biting on that in the real world, unfortunately.

What drugs are you assuming they are doing in Detroit?

This still needs to happen.  You think the dude decides when to play hard and when not to now?  Let that man get set for life with this next contract and see if he's a dawg every down. Chances are the only dawg in him will be a Pomeranian.

Morgan was in negotiations (allegedly) with Detroit at the combine.  Here is what we know:

1. He wants dawgs.

2. He said that he was not going to structure contracts where the team "kicks the can down the road"  To me, that leads to a lot of dead cap money eventually--and for the past half decade, the Panthers have been operating with a smaller cap figure than just about everyone else for this reason.  More Hurney than Scott Fitt, but take a look at Moton's contract--$30m per season for 2024 and 2025.

This means, Burns probably is not a "dawg" if he played not to be injured and his numbers reflected it.  He wants top $$, however.  Morgan is unlikely to give him the payday he wants.  Frankly, I know he was aware that the Panthers turned down an offer to trade him, so I wonder if the comment was not made to a) provide an excuse for his drop in numbers, and b) trigger a trade on the part of Burns

3.  To me, the draft has a lot of talent at our need positions  WR, CB, IOL.  The draft is not deep or that good at the edge position.  Detroit picks 29th, and they are unlikely to find that complement to Hutchinson.

4. Detroit has a solid roster and have more cap room than most teams.  (I have seen various estimates, but they are well over $50m)

get Jamo + whatever guard/wr we take with their 29th that feels like a no brainer. There will be really good guards and WR both at 29 and 33.

I'd love this. Makes sense for the Lions too. They've already got other good WRs and trading a very late 1st for a good pass rusher is a good deal.

I think this makes great sense for both sides. Not sure Burns is worth Jameson and a 1st. I think Jameson and a 2nd would be fair compensation. A future 1st could be in play though.

2nd is too cheap even with a player imo.

I look at Jameson as a 1st. He's only on the 3rd year of his 1st round contract. So we'd have him for 3 more seasons on the cheap, given the 5th year option. Burns will need a new one now that'll be nearly 30 mill a year. That will definitely play a role.
