In fairness we’ve been drinking the koolaid every offseason for the last 5 years and getting our souls crushed come game time. I’m liking there seems to be a coherent plan but let’s wait and see if they can get out of the basement before we start crowning anyone

Indeed. There's also the small matter of actually being able to you know..draft kinda well..instead of the worst drafts anyone has seen in years. We also retained the scouting department from those drafts. Then there's the matter of our current GM being directly involved in the process of those drafts. Yeah... needless to say let's dial back the offseason award ceremony until we see this come together in preseason.

Is it me or does it seem like we actually have a plan?

I think there have been plans every year but they were either:

a) Dumb, e.g. Rhule, Bridgewater, et al in 2020

b) Terribly executed, e.g. focus on better QB and OL in 2021 but attempt it by getting on Darnold, Elflein, and Erving

or

c) Both, e.g. 2022 offseason and 2023 as a whole

In fairness, huddlers have witnessed the poo show Morgan was part of that led us where we are. Winning the offseason is great. Winning in the regular season is something completely different.

In fairness, he had no finial say so. So give him a season or 2.

Teams that build primarily through FA usually don't do as well. You need a good mix of rookies year after year. Recent history shows that you simply must build the core of your team through the draft. This year's Super Bowl teams, the Ravens and 49ers, prove that.

Probably why we're seeing a lot of short term prove it type deals

In fairness, y'all are driving me crazy.

Some were skeptical of retaining Morgan and giving him a promotion. That was a rational approach, though one that always has the possibility of throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Some just want to criticize Morgan for trading Burns for a second and a 2025 5th, but unless they believe he's an abject idiot, even they should have the sense to know that he has did his research and made the best deal that he could. He inherited that problem.

At this point, it is beyond obvious that a damned dominant franchise isn't going to be built in a day. When you're at the bottom of the barrel, that should be even more evident. That means it's going to take more time to turn things around. Be patient!

    • You're right. And he's been on the upswing, something that's been a long time coming. And over the last few years, we woulda been better with a Trent Dilfer out there considering everything.  But right now, we got a W following a W the week before. It has been a while since we've been there. And we're at .500. I know that's only a C grade right now, but man, after so many F grades in a row... it's kinda refreshing to be here. Is Bryce a long term answer here? He's still got a long way to go. Could he do it? Those three touchdown passes he made were bang on, high performance throws. And they finally game planned him pushing the ball down field. It was against a weak Dallas defense, but at least they were running a game based on attacking weaknesses of the defense rather than covering the weaknesses of our own team. Maybe both Canales and Young are maturing before our eyes.
    • No, he got beat at home by Michigan this year.  The other five wins are against Big Ten and Non-Power bottom feeders.  He's 0-7 vs ranked teams, and each year Nebraska has started strong and then faded in conference play.  Nebraska is 1-7 in two Novembers under Rhule.  This year their November slate is USC, @UCLA, @Penn State and Iowa.  Very possible they lose all of those games.  His tenure at Nebraska is looking very Baylor-esque.  And somehow he's still a front runner for the Penn State job.  Which would be ironic since they just ran a very Matt Rhule like (as far as can't beat any good teams) James Franklin out of town.
    • GWDs vs... HOU: 15 - 13, no turnovers ATL: 9 - 7, no turnovers NO: 23 - 22, 1 interception NYG: 20 - 17, no turnovers ARI: 36 - 30, no turnovers @ATL: 44 - 38, no turnovers MIA: 27 - 24, 1 interception + 1 fumble DAL: 30 - 27, 1 interception (that was clearly TMac's fault) Which one of those games was Bryce clearly the reason that the team was behind aside from Miami?
