Matt Millers' 7 Round Mock (Panthers info only)

You see, I don't know about that,  especially not where we drafted him. Even without debating that point, he was a reach, and many people thought so as soon as we drafted him.

Mind you, I haven't given up on Mingo, but it's not looking great.

I mean, I won't be surprised if Leggette ends up being a 3rd rounder if we don't draft him at 33 or 39.  Seems like he's a mid-3rd rounder for a lot of "analysts" and I do use that term loosely.

I know it's an epic feat to do a 7-round mock for all 32 teams and respect that Matt even did this.

That being said, I'm not a fan of the selections given who was still on the board when he made those. A tackle being the selection at 39 when a center like Frazier was still on the board or a CB like McKinstry is just not going to happen here.

The day 3 picks were pretty meh too given who was still available for us.

It is what it is.....national writer can only know so much.

I've been on the 3rd round Leggette mantra for weeks.  He is a great pick.....with our 3rd round pick.

I'd be bigger on Leggette if we didn't already have Mingo. Kinda like how it felt redundant when we drafted Funchess right after drafting KB. Maybe Leggette will end up a lot better but on paper he's VERY similar to Mingo.

I only like Leggette in the 3rd if we already spent a one of our 2nd rounders on a WR.  The double dip is what I want.  That's really the only scenario I am pimping.

I don't like Leggette as the only WR drafted. I'm not a Mingo fan.  Much like Bryce, Mingo didn't really have any moments.....at a position where dudes these days generally show you something early.  Something.

my days of blind attachment have long faded away.  You got to show flashes or I want bodies to complete.  I don't want guys just slotted into positions.   So let Leggette and Mingo battle.

Mingo was a reach, and Legette will be if taken at 33.

Brett Kollman actually broke down the reasons why it took so long, and it gives a ton of context. I too was pretty skeptical until I saw it:

  • Played a running attack style QB in HS where his athleticism had him run for 1600 yards his senior year
  • Both his parents died before college, father dying right before he leaves
  • Goes to SC and gets switched to WR where he grey shirted his freshman year
  • Covid Hits
  • SC Changes coaching staff
  • Coaching change brings in new offense where he has to learn new WR stuff on top of trying to learn the position after losing a year thanks to the pandemic
  • Played behind already established upper classmen until his most recent season

Dude could have transferred out of SC but chose to grind it out and earn his spot. Dude is mentally tough and gritty as poo. Coaches rave about his practice habits and teammates love him. Loyal guy. Athletic freak of nature

Don't know why you wouldn't want that kind of player on the team.

I believe the high school qb stuff is a bit of a stretch.  I think he only played qb his sr year because they didnt have anyone else and he passed for like 800 yards.   It was by no means what he was used to.

Any mock draft that doesn't address our bare bones defense until 101 gets this gif...Eww GIFs - Find & Share on GIPHY

Not sure where you’ve been, but our defense is gonna be just fine. We lost Burns, and who else? Chinn? After we sign Gilmore, our starting 11 on defense is in place. We will only need depth. If you don’t like that mock, you are clueless!

Idk about Legette. But can we please stop acting like Mingo is the worst WR we've ever drafted? Certainly he left some things to be desired but we traded up to draft a QB #1 that couldn't even hit him deep in one of the most basic scenarios any starting QB worth his salt turns into a touchdown 10 times out of 10.

It's fair to wonder how Mingo would have looked if Dalton had played a few more games.

It's so strange...you complain about people treating Bryce with kiddie gloves, yet you find it so offensive that people say Mingo is not a good route runner?  That's where criticism goes over the line for you?  That's more coddling than I've seen anyone do for Bryce.  Don't talk about people white knighting for Bryce and then be this sensitive to the mildest of criticisms for Mingo.

Mingo had 3 catches for 21 yards with Dalton throwing the ball 58 times so it doesn't bode particularly well for your thought experiment.  If you think our offense looked so much more effective with Dalton and yet Mingo is putting up the same consistently minimal production with both QBs, then that would suggest Mingo is at fault for his own struggles.

Take this as a pure rumor- panthers loved barton and are eyeing him with the 33rd.

@Verge what have you heard??

I understand the allure of trading back and acquiring more picks given our needs but with the same scouting staff intact and a first time GM and after watching Fitterer work with trading down I think I'm good on the trade a quarter for 2 dimes and a nickel profit approach.

Just draft some good football players and keep it pushing.

Amen to that.
