It bothers me that we have no LBs on this list---we have NO Depth there.  IMO, we take a RB here when would should be drafting a LB.  But with so many needs, it is difficult to cover all bases.

I would bet money that only 2 of the Panthers draft picks this year work out for them, if they're lucky.  So anyone thinking the team will get more than 1 starter has their expectations way too high.

so here’s the league model: build a veteran offense and once that’s ready to go and is eating your money you get a bunch of first contract guys on defense

theres a reason they signed a bunch of veterans on defense this offseason-because once this team is presumably ready to go all in over the next season or two-you can field a competitive team with a well paid offense and cheap athletic rookies who can fly all over the field on defense.

anyways the point is that you’ve got to go offense heavy this draft. I’m not worried about defense in this draft. Maybe one guy in the first four picks.

Edit: obviously these guys would receive rookie contracts now but would be much closer to reupping in the process overall a couple seasons from now. The big money will likely be thrown at offensive guys in free agency as you saw this past FA period.

The first two rounds are typically starter level players. After that it's mainly rotational or depth guys. Which, we need a ton of depth, as well.

If they even work out. The odds are just not there for it to go any other way.

    • I just would like that tomorrow these picks made as much sense to me as yesterday's pick does. I was as surprised as everyone else but open to whatever going into it without a fav and from everything I've seen from people whose opinions carry some weight with me I'm thrilled with our first pick. The guy has the potential to open our offense up and allow everyone else the chance to shine as he's a true X and possibly a great one.  We often forget that our GM and HC were rookies too and they have already demonstrated that they learn by fooling the entire universe with their first pick. That alone has me saying wtf do I know, let's roll. Keep pounding bros. That first pick impresses the hell out of me. We look like a team that get's it finally. The only team who impressed me more yesterday was Cleveland of all places. Maybe this is an effect from climate change. But in Carolina we will call it culture change.   I have high expectations for this team moving forward now. Last season's improvement with this FA and first pick??? Dudes, I'm all in.  Kool-Aid for free!!! The Panther's are offering boys so drink up.
    • I believe it. If browns stay put, they will pick 2. The whole gambit should go on a run- WRs, RBs, TEs and maybe even 2-3 QBs.  Teams know the meat of this draft is defense.
    • Yeah when I was watching the video I just heard freshman and him talking about high school too. Either way you're talking about a teenager. I imagine it was the first thing us and any other team that met with him asked about. I also saw some rumblings about off the field concerns in another thread and I have no idea where that came from. Just seems like there's some grasping going on especially considering there are prospects in this draft with assault allegations. This is the social media effect. At the end of the day some people will like the pick some won't. I'll trust Canales judgment as he was obviously a huge part of this selection and he will obviously be heavily involved in his development.
