Darin Gantt: Trade down from #33

There are two reasons why a trade down this year could be more valuable.

A) There are a lot of teams needing a QB this year. If Penix or Nix makes it down to 33, you could bid that pick off.

B) There will be 4-6 QBs taken in the 1st round. This means there will be a few "1st round talents" make it into the start of Day 2.

I don't recommend the Panthers go far past 33 if they do trade down. There is a  talent drop off around pick 40-42.

as much as people would hate it, trading up from #33 to say 32 or 31 to get that 5th year option on your player is worth it.

It really depends.  Can you think of any instances where the 5th year option was crucial?  Most players that are hits are extended by then.  I don't think the 5th year option is as valuable as some think.  Move up if you think the guy you want is going to be gone.  I wouldn't do it for a 5th year option.

I can’t recall the source or time but I’d swear that sometime around one of Tepper’s tantrums, he supposedly asked, rhetorically, "what have they/he done to my team” and I think he was referring to Fitterer.

I can’t find the quote. IMO I get why they moved CMC, but the DJ Moore thing was inexplicable considering how much help he might have offered.

    • Names I'd keep an eye on... Coby White,  Jalen Suggs, Amen Thompson  and Stephen Castle...  3 teams except Orlando has checked on Melo before and rumblings of sours getting rid of fox too. I'd think they think Melo and Wemby would make them nuclear out west.
    • Well he somehow had 12 preseason carries for not playing. He also has 20 carries in the regular season, not three. He has actually played in about 7% of the offensive snaps for this regular season(33% of the special teams snaps). This isn't stuff you have to make up, these are very easily referenced statistics, man.
    • It's not common for a RB to recover from two ACL tears in the same knee. It's fairly rare. You are correct that it isn't the career ender that it used to be but there is also the fact that we appear to have largely moved on with the additions of Dowdle and Etienne.  Dobbins is a very good example. He has basically missed 54% of his career regular season games since he came into the league in 2020. It will end up being 57% at the conclusion of this season. It's a big contributing factor to why he is on this third NFL team in 6 years. It's certainly possible that may be 4 by the beginning of next season. I would say there is very little chance that Brooks ever contributes in any meaningful way in Carolina. Possibly with another team but I am extremely skeptical of his future here because of those injuries and because of the roster.
