ARTICLE: Rams paid a big price in trade with Panthers to move up 13 spots for Braden Fiske

Article:

The Rams must love rookie defensive lineman Braden Fiske, because they paid the Panthers a fortune to move up in the second round and draft him.

To move up from No. 52 to No. 39 and draft Fiske, the Rams gave up the 155th overall pick in this year’s draft, as well as the Rams’ second-round pick in next year’s draft.

That’s a rare price to pay, for a move up of just 13 spots in the second round. In fact, according to Seth Walder of ESPN Analytics, the Rams overpaid by the most any team has overpaid to move up on Day Two of the draft in at least the last six years.

Ultimately, the Rams used two second-round picks and a fifth-round pick on Fiske. That’s a lot to spend.

For the Panthers, it’s a great deal that nets them a second-round pick next year in addition to Jonathon Brooks, the running back the Panthers drafted after making another trade that packaged the two picks they got from the Rams. The Panthers didn’t have a 2025 second-round pick, having shipped it to Chicago in last year’s Bryce Young trade, but now they have a second-round pick after making a good trade on Friday.

Honestly, this is the move that impressed me the most out of the whole draft. The fact we were able to come away with a solid WR, potential stud TE, RB, and a second round pick next year, is fantastic.

No question, and to get the 5th round option for Legette, we really came out well after trading away so much draft capital for Bryce. To get the guy we were targeting with a 5th year option as well as getting a 2nd back for next year is a huge win

This is getting overlooked IMO. It was a great trade and we still got the player we wanted in Brooks. It’s nice to be on this side of a trade for once…

Yeah this was one of the best trades we managed in a while. Gained our second back from the Bryce trade, likely got the guy we wanted anyways.

People were like "lol, Fiske who?" when I mocked several times to us in the 2nd round.  Apparently the Rams thought highly of him.  I wouldn't have paid the price they did to move up, but he's a legit disrupting force and can play anywhere on the DL.  Would have been a great pairing with Brown.

We didn't get to fleece them in the Burns trade, but at least we got them to overpay in another trade.  That's unless dude turns into a perennial Pro Bowler.

Great trade. Basically turned Burns into an extra 2nd AND got the guy we wanted.

Yeah the Burns compensation when you factor in the Rams trade was two 2nds and two 5ths. Turned out quite well in the end, although obviously not as good as it could have been a year earlier.

And that's the thing. I get it people are going to parrot the word "DAWG" a thousand times about prospects and whine about not taking the exact player they wanted out of tens of thousands of collegiate players, but give credit where it is due. With all the misgivings of the Fitterer era and people are still bringing up Hurney, give Morgan and this set of coaches credit for making a how much do you all want him trade to acquire a high pick next year. I'm over the moon that just once, in a long time we didn't get fleeced!

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
