The Tank is on?

Over the past two weeks, we ReBryced and traded our Best WR for a handshake and a Wendy's coupon. With 9 games remaining, and one of those games vs. the Giants, getting rid of Johnson may benefit us NOT by getting a draft pick for next year related to his value, but by making losing more likely, thus improving our draft status overall.

Unfortunately for you Tankers, there seems to be a logjam at the bottom of the NFL, with 10 teams with 2 or fewer wins.  Here is how it looks, only, in your mind put the bottom teams at the top of your standings.

With the Panthers' next two games against the Saints (they have a longer losing streak than we do at 6 games) and the lifeless Giants, the Panthers face the weakest teams left on their schedule.  After the Giants, the Panthers have Kansas City, Tampa Bay x 2, Dallas, Arizona, Atlanta--in no particular order.  While we do not yet know how well we will match up vs. TB, I do not see a win on this schedule after the Giants--I think we win 2 games this season--3 if we go on a win streak or stun someone.  Remember, the last game vs Atlanta could be a meaningless game heading into the playoffs for Atlanta--they could rest starters.

We could beat NYG and maybe Atlanta's reserves.

So what about the rest of these teams?

POSSIBLE WINS

Miami: Raiders, Jets x 2, Patriots, Browns.  (Tua is back--win estimate:  6)

New Orleans:  Panthers, Raiders, Giants, Browns, Bucs  (win estimate:  5)

Las Vegas: Saints, Dolphins, Bengals, Jaguars (win estimate: 5)

Jacksonville: Titans x 2, Jets, Raiders, Colts (win estimate: 5)

New York Jets:   Colts, Dolphins x 2, Jaguars, Cardinals, Seahawks (win estimate: 5)

Cleveland:  Saints,  Dolphins,  Bengals  (win estimate:  4)

New England: Titans, Dolphins, Colts  (win estimate: 3)

New York Giants: Panthers, Saints, Colts  (win estimate: 3)

Tennessee:  Patriots, Jaguars x 2, Colts, Bengals (win estimate: 2)

Carolina:  Saints, Giants, Bucs x 2  (win estimate: 2)

Basically, what seems to be a 10-team hunt is probably closer to a four to five team hunt by the end of the season.  However if you look at the top 10 tank teams, I am confident the following will be in the market for a QB:  Panthers, Titans, Giants, Browns, Jets, and Raiders with Miami possible.

I see the tankathon as a 4-horse race--I want to win it because I want to trade out.  The QBs I like are going to be there later in round 1 that could change--

This team even sucked the joy out of tanking for me because you know they’re gonna draft the wrong guys

This. There's no light at the end of this franchise's tunnel. They'll pick first for the next three years and have nothing to show for it but an extra third-round pick courtesy of Negotiatin' Dan, and two guys on other teams' practice squads.

Agreed, people who think we are tanking are wrong.

We are just historically bad.

Giants are averaging 16 points a game.  I get the game is in Germany adding some weird factors but if that game isnt at least close this season could get real weird.   Players saying nope, asst coaches getting canned, front office getting canned etc.   We literally cannot be the worst nfl team of all time in DC and dans first year.   Tepper would be fit to be tied.  And honestly I am kindof here for it

You think they are doing this on purpose? This team is 3 day old swamp ass. They couldn't win a game if the opponent spotted them 2 touchdowns.

Yep, Teams rarely tank intentionally. Also it is hard to tank in the NFL. Panthers are tanking because they are just bad. They are tanking by just existing.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
