Canales still believes in Evero

Evero's scheme is good but he's terrible at scouting and identifying players to play in it. We've went out and brought in several players at his request because of them having history with him and most of them have been awful. I'm ok with keeping him on as DC but his input on personnel needs to be cut back. Go out and get some actual talent on defense and not just the leftovers from the Rams and Broncos from when Evero was there.

Right. Can't blame him, we traded Burns in order to use that money to use on the offensive side of the team. We left him with little to work with on defense and once Derrick Brown went down for the season it was all over. I continue to say he's doing the best with what he has to work with, I feel a mutual departure will be what occurs next week.

Evero is not the problem. Anybody with a clear eye can see he has nothing to work with. Name me a decent player besides Horn and Clowney?

You need talent to be successful as a coach. This is for every sport.

I agree he isn't "the problem" but I do think he isn’t exactly making the problems better.

I would put the blame about 80% on the front office and 20% on Evero.

They have been getting Evero's guys

You can't run an effective 3-4 without a monster NT and this FO has never really committed to the 3-4 front since Ron switched to it.

It's not all Evero's fault, but there's plenty of blame to go around for this defense being this bad.

I agree with your statement.

I don't dispute that but if Evero is calling your shots as a FO, that doesn't say much for the FO. If it's a collaborative effort, that doesn't say much for the FO. If it's largely the FO making the decisions, that doesn't say much for the FO.

Ultimately the front office guys take heat for poor talent. Even if it's at the behest of the coach/coaches.....you still ultimately have the responsibility.

Hence the 80/20.

It's the worst defensive roster in the history of this franchise that spans 30 years. I would say that is quite the accomplishment by the FO.

I mean, yeah, but they knew they were making sacrifices in regards to the defense. With the injury to Brown and to a lesser extent Shaq, we were cooked. Sure, the FO is accountable for trying to ensure (and insure) that the (im)perfect storm doesn't happen, but making lemonade out of lemons is really not realistic in the NFL. Matt Rhule and Scott Fitterer (under pressure from David Tepper) left the roster in shambles from too many angles. Dan Morgan and company concentrated on offense last off-season with a so-so result, but still to the detriment of the defense, including a wing and a prayer at EDGE.

All that being said, I dislike the scheme, especially when you're trying to rebuild (and, yes, we were/are rebuilding regardless of what they say), but, then again, I guess that ripping the band-aid off is a rational approach during a transition. Still, I prefer a 4-3 base (admittedly, maybe because it's what I'm used to). I am highly skeptical of Evero's scheme because to me it makes it easier for the RB to gain a head of scheme, and if you don't have the speedy physical backers and safeties you're cooked. I'd much prefer that Evero goes, but if he stays he'll have a fairer shot to make a believer out of all us non-believers.

This we have a bunch of nobody's on defense....

The best player has been out all year shaq too, Wonnum missed more than half the year, Fuller has missed most of the year...

This unit was talent deficient to begin with and then you factor in that pretty much all of the guys who are NFL level have missed extended time this is what you get.

I believe Tepper forced Ron to switch to 3-4 and it's been a mess ever since.

    • D Carr must have really disliked the saints to wait and do this announcement after the draft has passed if he made this call a few weeks before the draft sure they would have approached it and the offseason differently.  oh well will be interesting to see how their qbs perform.  would love to see them roll with Thill and just make the whole offense towards his skillset.  Although sadly would be only playing in about half the games with how often he gets injured.
    • I have to say it's quite fascinating seeing you pivot from months and months of wailing and agonizing about threads derailing into Bryce Young slingfests only for you to turn around and do the same thing. And just for the record. Nobody in life ever attained wisdom and clarity from mistakes by having people blindly fawn over them and tell them they are above reproach and incapable of making mistakes. Our front office is just as human as we are. And based on the fact that front offices across the league outside of a handful of teams change on a fairly regular basis it's safe to say they are certainly no more infallible than the average Joe even though they possess significantly more knowledge usually. If you want a utopia where all you do is shine shoes for anyone associated with the Panthers you go right on ahead and create yourself a new community sir. More power to you.
    • I trust Morgan when it comes to LBs so I think Wallace will do well.
