Not firing the defensive line coach, but instead firing a quality control coach, who is essentially a glorified gopher is completely unserious.

Can confirm as a former defensive quality control intern at the college level. All we do is watch film, absolutely no impact on the game whatsoever.

Gopher indeed.

Maffei was a holdover from the previous two coaching staff. He'd been thought to be a smart guy on the rise...

...guess not smart enough 😕

Will they bring in Dave's guys or Evero's? Tune in tomorrow on the next episode of "As the Stomach Turns".

I’m going to do some research on both sides and see who’s available. I know Gus Bradley just got fired and he worked Seattle with him. Different schemes though.

With how many miscommunications we saw from the secondary just trying to run simple cover 3 zone looks more than 60% of the time, yea... Watts was a likely candidate to be let go. He was the OLB coach in Denver previously.

Lukabu and Maffei were a bit surprising. Lukabu was dealing with injuries to his group (LBs). Wondering if this was an issue similar to Watts where guys were just making too many mistakes running simple concepts.

Maffei I couldn't even begin to figure out what.

Could also just be three other guys out there that are preferred?

    • Nina King continues to run circles around the rest of college basketball. She's been ahead of the curve on everything, and is the biggest reason for Duke's success post-K IMO. I think Scheyer is great at many things, but Duke went into the NIL era 100% ready whereas everyone else was playing catchup.
    • Happy they won convincingly instead of letting them hang around. Montreal is cooked, and rather than play hockey, they've decided to take some really cheap shots at guys. I get a player may feel a need to set the tone, and I understand how that works. But to 2-hand cross check someone intentionally in the face, to have a guy down on the ice and put his head into the ice with a stick, to just start punching anyone who gets within arm's reach- that's not setting the tone. That is nothing short of playing dirty.  That said, the Canes.... oh boy. They could have run this score to 6-0 with half a power play. It's embarrassing how bad the PP is. If the Canes go to the Cup finals against a team who scores at least 1 goal per game on the PP, they'll lose the close games because of the lack of results on the PP.
    • Because he knows they are winning the cup. And I fully support his decision.
