Everyone Pushing to Draft Yet Another WR Early

I don't think he comes available at all. We will probably trade for Tyler Lockette or Deebo Samuel

HELLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOO

Lockett turns 33 a month into the season, there is no circumstance where we should be giving up draft assets for him given that alone, we need guys Bryce can grow with if he's going to be our future at QB, and if not, we need guys who will be around for whoever replaces him.

Deebo is 29, only has 1 year left on his deal and in reality, just isn't a #1 WR (he only has 1 season ove4r 900 yards receiving), he's a gadget guy who can do a lot of things.  Giving up draft picks for that type of player and then needing to give them a new deal as they enter their 30 year old season.

If we were to target a WR through trade this offseason, DK Metcalf would be the player I'd go after in a vacuum.  The real problem with that is DK is basically the player we want XL to turn into, just seems like a poor allocation of resources to go after a similar, albeit much better, style of player.

I wouldn't be against giving Philly a call about AJ Brown, as they don't exactly have the most harmonious relationship there, but I don't think they move him in the end no matter how next weekend goes.

As I've said numerous times, T-Mac is about our only realistic option for adding a true #1 WR this offseason, if he doesn't fall to us or we don't take him if he does, that's a role/position that won't be filled until next offseason (and no, this isn't another post to say we need to take him, just pointing out the facts that there just likely won't be #1 WRs available to us given our cap/roster abilities this offseason.

Not a good year to need to spend a 1st on WR considering the generational class last year, imo.

Now if the board shakes out and BPA == WR... well... gotta do what they gotta do.

Does anyone actually believe Garrett Wilson is available for trade for anything less than a first round pick?

Na.  I would trade a first for him though.  A clear cut young WR1?  Easy trade for me.   I just don't know if they'll trade him.

I think we need defensive playmakers to compete. Edge has to be the pick if Carter or Green there. But we could use a real Split End and TMac is that, not sure XL is capable of winning the matchup consistently on an island or making the consistent catches you need there. XL may be fat Ted Ginn doing Flanker poo- end around, jet sweep, clears, route combo meshes with the slot kind of guy.

Honestly, what it comes down to for me is simple.

True #1 WR's never become FA's, you have to trade for one or draft one.  We haven't had a true #1 since 2013 with Smith, if T-Mac is there, you have to take him.

There won't be a can't miss elite pass rusher for us there, because there isn't one in the draft, if there was, it's a different discussion, but also they wouldn't make it to 8 anyways.

Taking T-Mac locks down one of the most important positions in today's game for the next decade, a position we haven't been able to properly fill for 12 years.

T-Mac's lack of separation at the collegiate level does not give you any concern?

He's the biggest body and has good hands, but I don't think he's the best receiver in this draft class. Hunter/Egbuka are my 1a/1b, then Tet, then Golden.

I think if we can land one more good offensive weapon in FA the offense will likely be more than fine. XL, Sanders, and Coker were all rookies last year. They should project to improve next season. But defensively we are so depleted. We have the worst defensive line in the NFL. Brown needs some help. My personal preference is an Mason Graham or and Edge.

We have to go Dline or LB.  We easily win 5 more games last season if we aren't getting gashed for 200 yards on the ground week after week.

No LB to take at 8 (thank god) but after years of Jon Beason, Thomas Davis, and Luke Kuechly it’s apparent that an eraser LB is sorely missing on this team and the biggest need.

I like McMillan as well, but it's not a surety that he's a WR1 (and there's no surety that he's destined to be the best WR in this class). That being said, at the moment I'd say he'd be a good bet.

    • Good, our ST is almost as bad as our ILB depth!
    • With two starters on expiring contracts (Moton + Corbett) as well as a few back-ups (Christensen, Mays, and Nijman), the Panthers are likely going to have to reinvest in the OL after this coming season. Icky's fifth-year option was picked up by the team this offseason while Lewis and Hunt both remain under contract then (though Lewis' deal is set-up in a way that would let Carolina move on from him then as well). I think that the team is going to be looking at investing a premium pick at RT should Bryce's development continue, and might even look to double dip at the position in order to have a swing tackle that can also kick inside when needed. There's also the question of starting center... Prospects I'm watching this upcoming college season... Centers Jake Slaughter (Florida) Iapani Laloulu (Oregon) Connor Lew (Auburn) Logan Jones (Iowa) Parker Brailsford (Alabama) Connor Tollison (Missouri) Bryce Foster (Kentucky) Pat Coogan Notre Dame) Raheem Anderson (Michigan) Carson Hinzman (Ohio State) RTs Francis Mauigoa (Miami) Kadyn Proctor (Alabama) Spencer Fano (Utah) Gennings Dunker (Iowa) Blake Miller (Clemson) Isaiah World (Oregon) Caleb Tiernan (Northwestern) Monroe Feeling (Georgia) Earnest Greene III (Georgia) Monroe Mills (Louisville) Charles Jagusah (Notre Dame) Tree Babalade (South Carolina) Trey Zuhn III (Texas A&M) Nolan Rucci (Penn State) Tristan Leigh (Clemson) Fernando Carmona (Arkansas) JC Davis (Illinois) Riley Mahlman (Wisconsin) PJ Williams (SMU) Tosh Baker (Notre Dame) Aki Ogunbiyi (Texas A&M) Courtland Ford (Kentucky) Ethan Onianwa (Rice)
    • I watched documentary on the 2010 Auburn season and Cam wasn’t included in that either. I think he just doesn’t care for these things
