Yeah i don't class blue chip as top 2-3 at the position in the NFL. I class them as cornerstones franchises build around

Sure, then we have very different definitions of "blue chip" then, as to me, I think of it like in college recruiting, a "blue chip" prospect is a 5 star guy, the elite of the elite.

For me right now, there are 4 in that group at the moment, Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, and Lamar, and I think even the biggest Bryce backer would have to be out of their mind to say they think he is going to reach the level of those guys.

Which is how it was being used in this thread, it was being in reference to Garrett, who yea, I put in the top 3 best pass rushers right now, if I'm drafting a new team, it's Garrett, Parsons, and Watt all in the discussion for 1st pass rusher taken for me, that's a blue chip player.

And also, again, I'm not wishing for this to happen, I'd LOVE it if Bryce were to prove me wrong, I just don't see it.  For me, his mental part of the game is only ever going to take him so far when he'll always be near, or at, the bottom of the league in physical talent at the QB position.  There has been 1 of those guys before him, Brees, and Bryce is smaller with a weaker arm, he still needs to be the biggest outlier in league history to live up to the trade and be what you think he will be.  But again, prove me wrong Bryce, I'd be happy to eat crow on this as it's what is best for the franchise, but I'm still going to call it like I see it until it's proven one way or the other.

AND.... even if I were okay with it, I'd much rather go after Parsons than Garrett, younger and might actually be the better player as well.

Garrett has played at an historical level. He's up there with Deacon Jones and Reggie White. Just saying. Parsons may be younger, but he isn't better.

--------------

In general, I don't think it's realistic that we trade for either one of them. That's akin to Pyrex fantasy.

Garrett has been a DE his whole life and was the #2 overall high school prospect as one, Parsons was a MLB until 3 years ago and is still learning the position.

Despite that, Parsons still had 10 more sacks in his first 4 years than Garrett had, albeit in 12 more games.

If Garrett’s numbers have been historical, what have Parsons’ been when he is ahead of Garrett’s pace while still learning the position?

My whole point was you wouldn’t be making the trade for one game or even one season, Parsons is the one you’d want moving forward, and I don’t think he’s as far behind in current impact as you think.

Ahh....off season over reactions, got to love it!

I doubt we're in the running to trade for Garrett.  Dude is looking to win after a career of losing in Cleveland, and he probably wants input.  Also Cleveland isn't going to move him now.  After the first few rounds of FA, maybe.  If anything, Garrett is probably here on unrelated business.

The team hasn't had a winning season since 2017. The Panthers are not a destination except for guys looking to get overpaid or prove themselves with playing time to get paid.

Hard to build up a team when you spend as much draft capital and cap on 1 guy while the needs are so vast.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
