Andy Dalton Re-signed

If our team were to come together and be solid enough to be in a playoff race, dalton could keep us in most games if forced to start.  I think he is competent as a backup, known the offense, and at this reasonable cost, i think this is a smart signing.

Dumb move. He isn't really playable anymore, he fell apart after 1 game this season. If it's for more than vet minimum it's a waste of cap and roster space. Just pay him to coach and free up a roster spot.

The start to another disappointing offseason is underway in Pantherland again.

There goes any wind in the sails of my offseason hope that might have been building.

We had at one point last season the worst or at least one of the three worst QB rooms in the league and that is not hyperbole regardless of what anyone might attempt to argue.

We should have gone toward a younger vet if anything. We do not owe Andy Dalton any loyalty. The Saints couldn't wait for him to leave and they are garbage. Meanwhile our Panthers are like "Hey we can't let Andy leave town we need a mentor for our third year first overall pick". Just comically depressing levels of ineptitude.

I'd prefer a backup with more.............potential

Backups aren't supposed to have potential; they're supposed to be known quantities. You want to know what you've got if your QB1 goes down, not bank on a guy reaching his potential when called on.

    • I watched a clip of all the offensive snaps. Young threw into some tight coverage and the guys made some plays on the ball. He also really missed some throws.  He has this middle of the field thing into a tight window pretty good and made three or four nice plays but he was just too inconsistent with his accuracy especially in the red zone. Today and in general.    That Int where people were chastising Legette for ‘not fighting through the coverage’, he in no way could have gotten to that ball. IMO. I think he thought it was going to hit the ground and didn’t see the defender coming for it. But not sure what he could have done. The camera doesn’t show the spatial relationship very well, I think the ball was way off. maybe 6 feet or more off target to the inside of the field.  Rico is a beast. And a very good receiver.   That was my impression without dissecting and rewinding, just letting the video roll. I did rewind the int two or three times to look at that one.
    • My biggest issue with keeping Darnold, which I felt we should have done, is we would still have Fitterer. And everything that came with that.  I think Morgan is going to be good.  Baker, just did not play well at all here. Not sure what else we were supposed to take away from it at the time.  That’s my short ‘I don’t want to argue about it’ take.
    • Even if we somehow make the playoffs we will be one and done so fast. Seattle, Rams, TB, Panthers, Detroit and Philly are all better than us.
