Mike Garafolo: Panthers are in on DK Metcalf trade

My guess it comes down to us and the Raiders and DKs preference will be the Raiders for a few obvious reasons.

He requested a trade when Geno was still the QB in Seattle.

IDK why he would want to go play with Geno again after trying to move away from him in the first place.

I wonder if Metcalf would be wasted here. His game is the deep passing attack; that's not Bryce's strength as a passer. I feel like a really good route runner might be our ideal #1 WR.

Our offense was one of the better deep passing offense the last half of the year. DC wants to throw it “over their heads.” I think we still have the idea of rookie Bryce who was scared to throw it deep.

If we have to turn around and pay him 30million then you are correct

That's basically it. There are very few teams willing to do so, and it lowers his overall trade value. If he was on year 3 of a 1st round rookie deal, he would be worth a haul.

And we’ll never hear from him again

It will be DK last contract… he’s looking to cash in.  NE have better pick than us and waaaay more cap space.  If DK wants to cash in without a care for production, this is it.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
