Nick Scott weighing contract offer to return to Carolina

Looking at the DL exclusively, they're adding DB, Wharton, and Brown III to it which completely replaces last season's starters. That leaves Robinson, Crumedy, Tuttle, Ray, and any other additions made competing for the three back-up spots. They essentially added a 100 tackle DT, the sack leader of one of last season's Super Bowl teams, and a true NT rather than an undersized one.

I'm with you on the safeties. If Scott does return, I expect him to take Sam's role as back up SS/ST. Moehrig is the clear starter and a major upgrade... as much as I want a top flight FS, I have to appreciate the team prioritizing a run-stopping safety to fix record-setting incompetence over a centerfielder. Then when I consider that the Panthers get to play against Bijan Robinson, Alvin Kamara, and Bucky Irving twice a season... I can dig it. The situation at FS tho...

I'm concerned that we might see more soft zone coverage if they don't find a starting FS. I'm finding it hard to believe that they're going in depending on Demani Richardson, but maybe his play last season makes them comfortable with adding another young body to compete against this season? I gotta dive into the tape and see for myself.

Going to be veeery interesting

It would be fun to pair Moehrig with a ballhawking type like Watts.  Horn is a shutdown type at CB but we really do need a ballhawk in the secondary to make us a bit peskier back there.  Then land a CB like Strong VT to see develop as well for the outside or a better boost at NB like Parrish KSU over Smith-Wade.

Same. I thought for a minute they meant Trent Scott. It’s possibly Trent Scott is a better safety.

And no slam on the guy, hope he'll be good for us, just nothing memorable so far.

Ok so our DL was one of the worst in NFL history, and we sign some new players (2) but we also bring back Tuttle and Ray--why????

We have bad safeties and let them walk, then bring back a S from that unit.  He only played 324 plays in 2024 and looks to play less this season.  He had a 48.1 PFF grade vs the run.  What are we doing?  Camp bodies?

Brown was hurt. That’s sort of the crux of the collapse of the line.

Nothing like a guy that allows a 106.2 career passer rating to shore up a leaky D.

He's not even a good tackler. Bad in coverage. Bad against the run. I mean... come on man. Give me something to work with. I need something to scheme you for. I can't just hide you in the secondary all game.

I get that, but others have to step up.  Can I do the job or do I have to have someone else beside me getting all the offensive attention to do my job?  They failed miserably.  I agree that, from our perspective, Brown will make a huge difference moving forward, but these guys had their opportunity and they sucked.

You are giving me hope that I too may play safety for the Carolina Panthers.  I have a bad shoulder from when I played in college in the 80s.  I am white and ran a 4.75 40, and I am about 30 pounds overweight and I need readers in restaurants.  But as you describe him, I meet those requirements.   Sending my resume to Dan....Tim And Eric Dancing GIF

    • They are 1 and 9 against the  Bucs in the past 10 games. the Panthers go as young goes.  QB1 ‘s are suppose to dictate and overcome  and elevate Everything the QB does affects every part of the team and Bryce is uneven. Canales and Bryce have  an uneven relationship too  as for Evero, the only thing that might save him is the injury to Baker’s left shoulder and oline injuries. I don’t even know how he is out there   I really feel their season ended last Sunday Canales’ division record isn’t great   Getting owned by the Saints and Bucs isn’t a good look
    • Frankly surprised by the amount of people that want to hang Evero. This was a defense that was almost universally considered the bottom of the barrel before this season started. We’ve managed to stat our way to the middle of the pack whatever that means. Those critical of the zone schemes, what do you want? When even JC is getting burnt one on one by Olave you have little choice. There definitely have been moments where the zone blitz stuff has bit us. That said, are the third string linebackers (and nick Scott) covering poo anyway? This unit had only conceded 10 points going into the fourth quarter despite a litany of bullshit penalties on both sides. Them over performing is the biggest reason we are still in playoff contention.
