Let's trade Moton

In a draft loaded talent, we could find a starter in the 4th rd. For what its worth, on offense guys like Bond(WR), S. Williams(WR), Skattebo, guys like this will probably be available in the 4th. Or Peebles at DT, and Jack Sawyer who I think will be a really good player could be available. So a 4th round pick could bring great value. Just saying, don't act like you cant find talent in the 4th rd.

Yea good point.  I'm just not sure its worth it.  The odds of a 4th or 5th round pick becoming a starter aren't great.  Moton is still above replacement level, he's just on the back loaded last year of his contract.  That isn't a problem for the Panthers because they can afford to tank his cap hit this year.  You really think it's worth selling off 1 year of Moton for an extra day 3 pick?  You've swayed me back to a toss-up.  Maybe if we went OT earlier in the draft.

and from Morgans comment about Icky things could get interesting regarding his 5th year.  Not sure why they dont just pick it up as he deserves a 5th, dont make this difficult

I'm all for pushing him to take that next step but he is already a solid LT so the 5th option should be an easy call even if negotiations go sideways. Morgan needs to worry about dragging the D is to respectability because it's still not looking close to good.

Me: "Wow, it's so nice that we have a top 10 offensive line and some continuity. It made the offense watchable for the first time in years."

Huddle: "Let's blow up our offensive line!"

Yeah 😕

It just feels like some folks go into every single season thinking about the next two, three or four after it instead of the current one.

When it comes to contracts and building a winning team, you better have an eye on both. Nothing wrong with thinking about the next few years. Do you invest your money only thinking about today? Or thinking about your future?

So are we going to the playoffs this year? The answer is NO! We are in a rebuild, and right now we can get something for Moton. I guess we can just go 6-11 and do this again next year? So what do you guys suggest? Sign him to a new contract at the end of the year or let him walk after the season? Both of those options are terrible. Signing him to a new contract is crazy, and letting him walk for nothing is craZier!

the most important aspect of the rebuild is the QB....and that working out is more dependent on the OL than anything else.  We just saw that play out.  And Bryce is still a work in progress that we hope to get right.

Personally, I think we have a shot at the playoffs this year if several things happen.

If the offense plays like it did towards the end of last season

If the defense improves even 10 spots.

If special teams can make a few plays.

Not saying we will make the playoffs, but I think we aren't in as bad a shape as some think we are.

So no changes to the oline unless its to pick up some depth.

Derek Carr misses the season.

Michael Penix is awful.

Baker Mayfield retires this summer to work for Progressive insurance.

Those would help too.

Well, didn't say we had a great chance, but we have a chance.

In truth, the difference between winning and losing in the NFL is just a few players.  If Bryce continues to improve, if the Oline stays healthy, and if the defense can get up to barely adequate, we would have a shot.  Especially if the other teams in the division struggle.

Did you not see what happened with Josh Norman, Bradbury, Curtis Samuel, Deontae Jackson, Brian Burns and pretty much ANYONE this team has EVER messed up contract negotiations with? Its the same thing, over and over and over and over.

Off season after off season of bandaid duct tape patchworked together rosters just trying to salvage this season after this season has created an organization that has never put together consecutive winning seasons in it's three decades of existence.

I feel the plan should be to have christ take over for moton after this season.

He's 2 years younger and plenty fresh.

Nothing wrong with discussing what to do with motion this year or after. Who knows, get them Wharton's jelly cells in him and resign him for 3 more years.

There's loads of options on this and we are on a football discussion forum...

    • Sadly I think the team views Wallace as the guy, and despite help from TD and Luke, he's barely taken a step. Need to upgrade the position in the worst way, and hope he can develop into a decent 2nd guy.
    • Bryce is throwing lobs not darts. Which is fine if they are going to a guy we feel confident in but if the defense picks up on the offensive scheme the easiest way to combat that is make sure your safety is always sliding to Coker or tmac and leave XL with the one on one opportunity. Don't get me wrong the passes were thrown with great placement but Coker and tmac made plays on the ball that I wouldn't count on XL to make. That would be how I would defend deep against us. Especially on that crosser for tmacs td. No way in fug my safety is going to shade to xl's side and leave my corner one on one with Tmac
    • The bucs schedule is irrelevant. We have to beat the saints and beat them twice. If we split with them they are getting in and we're going home. The only way we get in with a split is is going 3-1 and them losing 3 games which means we beat them once and they lose to 2 of the saints, falcons and dolphins. Losing a game to them is not an option. We better bottle up whatever we had against the rams. Going forward that has to be the way we play. 35 runs to 20 passes. The run game has to be effective and when called upon Bryce has to float that ball into a perfect spot and beat the one on one coverage
