RB University of Georgia

RB9 on the Beast - the blurb:

Quote

Projected Round: 3rd

A one-year starter at Georgia, Etienne became the lead back in offensive coordinator Mike Bobo’s zone-based power scheme with gap principles included. He was part of a committee backfield in his two seasons at Florida before jumping to the Gators’ hated rivals for the 2024 season. He finished as Georgia’s second-leading rusher but battled through a rib injury over the second half of the year (his team’s second-leading rusher each of his three seasons in college).

Etienne is built low to the ground with the vision and tempo to follow blockers with little wasted motion. He doesn’t have the same type of electric acceleration as his older brother, but he has balanced feet in the hole with short-area cutting burst to shake defenders in tight spaces. Overall, there might not be anything exceptional about Etienne’s game, but he also doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses that would keep him from seeing steady NFL snaps. His promise as a pass catcher and blocker gives him value on all three downs.

Quote
  • Compactly built and runs bigger than listed, with muscular lower half
  • Pairs his feet with his eyes at line to set up moves
  • Agile footwork for sharp cuts and last-minute redirects
  • Runs with tempo and balance through hole
  • Gathers and establishes his weight quickly post-cut
  • Consistently finishes runs with toughness
  • Large, accepting hands as receiving target — rarely let a pass hit the ground
  • Just 371 carries in college — plenty of tread left
  • Became an offensive leader at Georgia (Kirby Smart: “He hasn't had even a full year with these guys, but he's not afraid to speak up.”)

I really, really like this pick when I sit back and reflect on the Panthers' current situation.

Etienne's reports show that he's a by-committee back. He doesn't excel at anything, but he has no glaring weaknesses either. He's just... solid.

That's a great RB2, regardless if JB's knee is done. It positions the team to still rock with Chuba as the premiere guy and JB's return will only be a massive boost to the room.

    • Number 9  Carolina Panthers  Bryce Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, produced career highs in completion percentage (63.6%), passing yards per game (188.2) and passing touchdowns (23) in 2025. However, those numbers aren't exactly stellar by NFL quarterbacking standards. Even though the Panthers backdoored their way into the postseason in 2025 as NFC South champions with an 8-9 record, Young's performance was up-and-down. He threw for the third-fewest passing yards by a quarterback to make the playoffs in the last 20 seasons, per CBS Sports Research.  FEWEST PASSING YARDS BY QB TO REACH PLAYOFFS, LAST 20 SEASONS (MIN. 16 STARTS) PASSING YARDS PLAYOFF WINS 2012 Christian Ponder (MIN) 2,935 0 2008 Joe Flacco (BAL) 2,971 2 2025 Bryce Young (CAR) 3,011 0 2006 Steve McNair (BAL) 3,050 0 2019 Josh Allen (BUF) 3,089 0 Young did deliver some high highs, like when he threw for a franchise-record 448 yards passing in a Week 11 overtime win at the Atlanta Falcons and when he went toe-to-toe with Stafford in the playoffs in a 34-31 defeat.  Kenny Pickett couldn't win the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition a year ago, and Will Grier is a career backup. This is Young's team. • This is why we need the Bank of America Stadium Ballroom.
    • That thread has all the huddle legends either posting in it or mentioned in it. I remember everyone of those folks and I truly miss seeing them post here. This place was so much better with them here.
