Before Shadeur Sanders there was Ryan Mallet

This. Both were dumb and disrespectful of the pre-draft process in different ways. You're going on job interviews for potentially massive multi-million dollar gigs. Don't go out and get hammered the night before and if they send you a sampling of the playbook put in some time to get to know it.

The first time I ran a half marathon I didn’t train and the marathon was on a Sunday morning. We always partied on Friday nights but I told myself not this time I need to be fresh. Well I partied anyway and didn’t sleep Friday night and spent Saturday hungover with a very stuffy nose. Rallied Sunday morning and finished the half in 2:35. Not my best showing. So today I learned I’m like the Ryan Mallett of marathon runners.

Score.

Have people forgot his Clausen rant??? Including himself?? I get its been perfectly fine to lie over the years without judgement.

"In 2010, Mel Kiper Jr. stated that he would retire if Jimmy Clausen didn't become a successful NFL quarterback within eight years."

So mel gets to stay on for SEVEN years after the fact, the deal is Clausen was out of the league in 2015.......Mel stays on after stating on TV he'd retire if teh jimmy wasn't successful, then calls out the NFL for not being able to draft QBs??

I swear some people are allowed to get away with BS.....

That motherfuger said Jamarcus Russell had the same skill set as John Elway. LOLOLOLOL

Pretty sure he also had Bortles over Cam too

It was yo gabba gabba Blaine Gabbert, but yeah equally dumb. I remember him being head over heels for Jake Locker, too.

I remember thinking Mallett would be a great QB and wanting the Panthers to draft him, but hey at least nobody pays me for my opinion on this stuff.

Mel Kiper can't be wrong. He can only be failed by prospects he liked and prospects he didn't like can only be carried by great circumstances but either way, just know that Mel Kiper was not wrong.

I think the Sanders issue is a variant of the issue an older The Golden Calf of Bristol or Cam Newton faced.  Could they of been backup QBs? Sure, from a talent standpoint.   But whether they wanted it or didn't.....they brought a circus, attention and demanded oxygen in a manner no coach wants to bother with in terms of their backup QB.

I think the difference is that The Golden Calf of Bristol and Cam were just big personalities with big time talent (The Golden Calf of Bristol just lacked any consistency, leading to most of us hating him because it felt like he pulled big plays out of his ass). Sanders is a good talent who is completely full of himself and the ego feels unearned. You should WANT to change the bad culture of the losing franchise you expect to go to as a top pick...but that's a thing you keep to yourself or articulate well enough that it doesn't come off as "we're doing poo my way, if you don't like that, don't draft me".

You don't create an entire room touting yourself as legendary when you did absolutely nothing legendary at the collegiate level. Nobody is going to be fondly remembering Shadeur Sanders the college QB. Johnny Football is there, Cam is there, Vince Young is there, RGIII is there, The Golden Calf of Bristol is there.

Sanders needs humility and to pry himself away from his father. His father is going to tank his career before it is even started.

Sanders may bounce around the league as a backup for a few years, he'll play in select games and look like a backup but he'll have that one game where he pops off and that game will be used to say "see?! He's great!" and then he'll get the start and never live up to that game again.

I feel like its been proven over and over again at QB. You can't take the guy that was handed everything on a silver platter. This isn't a case of he is just so much better then everyone Colorado would be crazy to not recruit him and make him the man. This is a case of the coaches son getting special treatment. They retired his number for fugs sake.

QB in the NFL is too hard, you have to be locked in. Sanders does not have the mental makeup to be that guy. Then you add all the flags about his processing ability and not being able to throw with anticipation/throw receivers open. Doesn't even have the arm to wow you and think there is something to work with and mold.

Too many examples of head cases and just down right bad guys in the NFL to think that Shedeur's "fall" was anything other than the fact that teams either didn't need a QB or thought there were better options to get them where they were trying to go.

I think all of the off-field stuff is a tiebreaker when the on-field stuff makes two picks interchangeable.

Sanders was really poorly prepared for the jump into the NFL. His dad trained him in the same stuff he got away with back in the day but that isn't going to fly at QB. When I saw he was also his agent going into the drsft I just laughed. Dion failed so hard in that job and it cost his kid millions.

If he keeps acting like his dad then he is in for a rough time. If he can take a hint from the reality that just slapped him in the face and bank account then he has a chance to turn some of that around.

I mean imagine this is your dad.  Playing 2 professional sports and strong arming MLB and NFL teams.  He was a superhero.  What other kind of perspective can he offer?  This is a great watch btw.
