Ravens safety out for year. Torn Achilles… Panthers may need to do something

I sorta hope we go with Moehrig and Ransom--veteran and rookie.  I also think they are somewhat high on Richardson.  We re-signed Scott to an minimal, non-guaranteed contract for insurance. We have 3 UDFA safeties on the roster.  I think THEY THINK we are set.

That probably makes the most sense at this stage of roster building.  I mean, don’t throw the kid out there if he isn’t ready, but if he shows ability then let him play.  The roster isn’t complete so there’s still time to take some chances.

Yep, I'm starting Ransom unless he struggles in camp.

We're not contending this year, don't spend any more cap space at this point unless we have to, roll the extra space over into next offseason at this point.

If he proves he can be a starter next to Moehrig, great, we just got a cheap starter for a few more seasons and can use the cap space at more impactful positions.  If he struggles, then we have our backup SS and we sign a new FS or use a earlier pick on one next summer.

We still need a proven commodity at FS in my opinion. Toss em a couple shekels and let's go

I think--and this is wild speculation based on their comments and decisions--that a free safety type may not see the field unless they go dime.  At which time, I see how a FS could be very valuable.

The position that still bothers me is OT.  Moton's knee means BC or Nijman play RT. (Or Cade Mays--people don't realize this, but he played some T in college, is 6'5" and has over 34 inch arms.

Ok, back to safety.  I think we are set until camp reveals more.

I think RT will be stronger than FS even if Moton goes down

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
