I assume the guys released now versus closer to Tuesday are bottom of the barrel on their respective teams. Guys who are borderline, but will eventually be cut, should be shopped until closer to the deadline.

yes, and teams occasionally cut a player early who has a chance to stick on another team as a courtesy--They should know by now---if they do not, then they might want to rethink their preseason strategy.  Of course, now that Practice squads are bigger, maybe they want to interview everyone who they plan to cut to see if they are interested in returning.
