XL is a bust

There is nothing natural about XL playing receiver. Nothing is smooth or easy with him and it’s a shame because I don’t think he’ll get any better

Seems like hes always running flat footed....no finesse or much athleticism, just a bull in a china shop.

At least XL has the tools to be better.  He just needs to a) stay healthy and b) put in the work both in the film room and practice.  I've been critical of XL, but he could turn things around.  I'm not sure he has the mindset to take his game to the next level.  Until he proves me wrong, he seems like he's collecting game checks with no will power to be any better.

Tools dont always matter.  A lot of the players with the most athletic tools have been the biggest busts.  Also, ive thought since before we drafted him that his tools are overrated.  He ended up being 6'1 which isnt crazy for a possession receiver, especially with short arms and smallish hands.  Then he ran a pretty good 40 and everyone lost their minds even though he intentionally skipped everything to show any sort of shiftiness or quickness.  We need to go after some fast (but also quick) route running receivers.

Funny that it's a play he has to extend and make a highlight one handed catch as proof he'snot doing enough. Should he have laid out for it? Yeah. But the one thing we don't see is him, or any other receiver for that matter, having balls consistently hit them in the hands in stride where they have a chance to catch and run. It's always some weird acrobatic grab or an immediate hit as soon as they snag it.

Goff put on a pretty good clinic last night on how to throw the ball.... of course he can actually see the field.

He should’ve turned his body and climbed the ladder for this ball. That should really be his game at this point. His lone good season at SCar was half catch and run and half high pointing. He cannot route run at this level and he’s not faster than the DB. Use your frame to box them out, you have literally nothing else other than a mild disability.

I hope he's just the poster child for sophomore slump. If not, well, we're paying him first round contract for two more seasons.

Rationally, most WRs take three years to fully develop in the NFL. Hopefully he smartens up about his game because a big, relatively fast guy like him shouldn't just be completely removed in games by zone or CB3 man coverage.

Yeah I was complaining about that too in the latest round of Bryce debates last week.
He isn’t doing anyone any favors.

I thought that we would see that a good bit and on downfield routes.

This is imo not the best example of why XL is a bust but NFL receivers do come down with balls like that on occasion. Still... your point is spit on and is why I'm not throwing any of our WRs out. I will say XLs effort just leaves something to be desired, and it feels like our other pass catchers generally try to fight more.

Yea that's where I am. It's hard to judge him when he's playing with a QB who can't really get him the ball consistently, but considering McMillian is already producing I wouldn't say it's a great sign for Legette.

No way we can’t have these excuses about QB play. Talent is evident no matter what.  Only thing that varies is the statistics. XL is just an athlete, not a football player
