  1. 1. Where does Bryce rank on the all-time draft bust list?

    • The biggest draft bust in the history of the NFL, considering the assets and picks given up to draft him.

He won't be named in any all time bust lists by anyone outside of this board tbh.

Jamarcus Russell: 7 wins - 18 losses in 25 career starts, winning percentage 28.0%

Bryce Young: 11 wins - 26 losses in 37 career starts, winning percentage 29.7%

Oakland had the number 1 pick when they selected Russell they didn't have to give up extra assets.

For us he's the biggest bust in franchise history. In the nfl league wide he would fall somewhere in the top 10, possibly even top 5.

This. Don't forget the draft began in 1936. 90 first overall picks. 10 years of AFL drafts before merger. Add in a few years of USFL drafts. Over 100 first overall draft picks & yes, Bryce does crack the top ten busts, IMO.

He's at the top when you factor in what we gave up to get him. He doesn't have an attitude or effort problem like Russell or Leaf had so he's able to hide from the media about it because he's such a good dude. But in terms of investment to performance...he's competing for #1 all time if he isn't already there.

I think given the trade he is probably the biggest Panthers draft bust.  I think more and more people are coming around to that.

But the very fact he started 30+ games means he is far from a top bust overall IMO.

This is a rather subjective subject, and I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone about exactly where he lands.  But I definitely think he is Top 10.

But even a year ago, The Sporting News had Brycie Boy at #6.  It doesn't really say how they came to their rankings but it appears they may be ranking purely by statistics although the article does mention the haul we traded away to get the #1 pick.

I had forgotten about some of the guys on this list.

Maybe, but I think you can chalk that up to sunk cost fallacy. Jawalrus was #1 overall, so it was a little easier to justify moving on from him than #1 overall + #1 overall + 2nd round pick + DJ Moore.

If Bryce had only cost us the #1 overall pick in 2023, I firmly believe his benching in 2024 would have been the end of the line.

I think it also has to be factored in how much else has been spent to support him. It's not just the picks to get him, but an obscene amount just to try and build an offense to see if he's even serviceable as a starter. We've spent 3 years worth of picks and resources for results that would have been cut in training camp if he hadn't been an overall number 1.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
