Our rookie seems to be calling out our defensive scheme

Recommended Posts

It’s a good point. A lot of people are upset with our pass rush production, but the schemes allows for the QBs to get the ball out fast bc our DBs are consistently 7-8 yards off the ball.

Evero  is absolutely terrified to run man pressure. And the crazy part is if he did, his zone could eat QBs alive. He just uses it far to often with no disguise and the QBs know where the weak spot is

I said yesterday that I suspect that our pass rush would look a helluva lot better if we went back to a 4-3. The reason why I don't think Evero is some amazing defensive coordinator is because he doesn't put his players in the best position to succeed. He is slow to adapt, if he adapts at all (the same issue that I think Canales has on the offensive side of the ball). We just have to legitimately invest in the defense with some draft capital (like we did last year) and let this play out. Tepper will get tired of it eventually. I hate that we didn't just try to snatch Saleh when we had the chance. Some things are just too obvious.

Yeah, Stafford was way to comfortable for most of that game. He looked the worst when, surprise surprise, we started dialing up the defensive pressure.

Some bonedick sht repped me for saying it looks like the defense is getting soft again...Not sure what he was watching. That D philosophy has to get better.

For this to be the year of development, Princely really didn't get many snaps. And yes, I would hate to be a ten sack college player and ride the pine while QBs sat in the pocket all day to carve up my team. That's just competitiveness. I get the frustration.

    • A team should always be putting at least one or two draft picks in at tackle and guard each season. Those guys just don't last nearly long enough and those that do get very, very expensive. In our situation, we need a little more time to see what the Icky injury works itself out to. Njiman performed really well out there and if this injury lingers into the next season, then he might do well enough there to hold the line for the team. Or we could draft early if there is a stud LOT in the draft when our spot comes along.  Honestly, we may be looking at replacing both LT and RT this season at this point. Moton is getting long in the tooth and while he deserves a shot to go for a playoff run with this team, I don't know whether we will really see him come back next season yet. It's still so darned early in all of this to say.
    • Because we had a ton of things go our way this year and made the playoffs with a -70 point differential.  This year was the outlier.  Regression to the mean is unavoidable.  So the team will have to significantly improve to beat 8 wins next year.
    • One thing I noticed in this game (and I say this as the biggest of Bryce Young haters) is that Bryce did do a solid job of throwing into voids in this game, and leading receivers on crossers.  There were a few times where I was thinking "where the hell is he throwing it" only for a receiver to appear out of nowhere and catch it in stride.  Mike McDaniel might be a guy that can squeeze a little bit of production out of the otherwise ghastly Bryce Young. His offenses heavily feature that style of passing game.  I've heard Idzik is drawing interest from other teams.  If so, bringing McDaniel in at OC would be a stellar move.  I know it'll never happen, but fun to think about.
