I mean this is the problem with how we tried to build. We took a team with some holes and traded away assets for a QB...

Cam elevated the team when he was drafted. It was not a very good team. Remember it'd not done particularly well in 2009 and was atrocious in 2010 - because of QB... We added good TEs but we needed a QB to get them the ball.

We also didn't need to trade current weapons and future picks for Cam... We just had him there.

There were existing pieces to build with including Olsen, Smitty,  Dangelo, Stewart, Defense. 2010 was just a historically bad offense due to QB.

There is part of this that is true. If you dump a potentially very good QB on an extremely bad team, you get Cam Ward 2025(just an example).

However, there is an element of having to shoot your shot when it is available because you don't know when it is going to come again.

I would imagine Jets fans aren't pumped that Dante Moore went back to college and are now looking at the prospect of either having to beg/overpay a FA QB, overdraft Ty Simpson or deal with an overdrafted 2nd-5th round QB in a panic.

This is why I think we need to be developing 2 QBs at all times. You just don't know what's going to happen and taking a vet backup is wasted time. Mahomes is now out for the majority of next season. Can you imagine if that was us and we were going into 2026 with Dalton as our starting QB just because we didn't want to try and develop a QB2.

If you want vet QB presence, hire him as an assistant QB coaching water boy or whatever title is necessary to have him on the field on game day, but we should always be working on developing at least 2 on the main roster and a 3rd on the PS.

Agreed. You should always have a good #2 option that can step in for a few games and keep the ship steady. You should always be developing a #3 too. Throw a 6th or 7th at em.

If we need a vet QB hire a real QB coach instead of some jabroni as a favor to someone else.

Other than that it should always always be about developing the possible next man up in the event of unforseen circumstances.

I think there needs to be a level of expectation for the players too that you're going to work on this in the offseason. We need to find QBs dedicated to the craft, not just those that are going to rely on their talent or whatever worked before or at the college level.

Defense was being built but that offense had some talent around Cam.  I agree Cam elevated the team that’s undeniable

I think people are missing the difficult part of doing this and that is having a competent FO that has the skill/ability to draft and fill out a roster. This isn’t easy to do. The Steelers have that ability. A few teams do/did (49ers/Eagles). The Panthers absolutely have and do NOT.
