That wasn't a slip... you can tell he uses it in reg convo. And If this wasnt a thing I probably wouldn't even have noticed it tbh.

Might make his acceptance speech a lil more interesting tho. Hell I had more of a problem with the "ref" comments yesterday than this. Reminded me of Cam.

Its basically accepted from anyone that isnt full blown white. At least in my experience in Fayetteville.

Also from Fayetteville. And im black.  Random example but Drake is half black half white and it's acceptable for him to use it, apparently 🤣

Pretty much this. He's probably heard it pretty much his entire football life with a ton of other players being black in the locker room .

You can debate whether he can say that or not because he's a minority but not of African decent,  I guess lol.

He just has to remind himself to be politically correct when he's presenting himself to ghe public.

If he was white this might have been a poo storm though.

I personally don't call anyone that word but with the a at the end it's not meant as a derogatory word. You can tell when people are actually trying to portray themselves as  overtly racist , they use the hard R every time.

I highly doubt black players in college and the NFL are okay with white players using that word like that, and seeing as he's clearly always done it, I'm guessing the Polynesian players have just always been considered part of the black community in sports in that way.

What's probably so ridiculous about this, is that I'll bet his black teammates have always called him that word as well, which also would be why he's always used it as well.

This is only a thing because that girl reacted that way.

It's also being used for engagement by social media people, in the same way they posted the clip of him saying that girl clearly doesn't only eat salads and making it seem like he was insinuating she was fat, but when you watch the clip he's clearly saying it because she's eating something else at the moment and he pointed to it when saying that.  So he was clearly making the joke that she doesn't "only" eat salads, but they are just trying to get clicks and comments.

Having worked for a college football program with a large Pacific Islander presence on the roster + the NFL, can confirm. Polys in football have “the pass”. Heard it every day.

As a white dude that grew up playing sports and in locker rooms my entire life no one really cares except people that blow everything out of proportion.  I’ve used that term to my teammates and they have used it towards me, with the “a” it’s more brotherly than derogatory and everyone in that locker room knows that.  People these days just find everything and anything to be upset about.  Besides, who doesn’t love singing Karaoke to Nelly?

It just hasn't hit the mainstream radar yet. If it goes viral best believe it'll be mostly gatekeepers taking issue. A lot of black folks have a zero tolerance policy on people who don't identify as black using it.

I live in the Bronx where you have a lot Fat Joe types who throw it around as part of the culture here so I get it, and locker rooms are usually politically incorrect for comraderie's sake, but letting non-black people use it is crazy to most of the country in the same way that a confederate flag means "I miss slavery" to anyone not from the South.
