Legette as a TE

Xavior Legette is listed at 6ft 3".  Could he be better as a tight end . He is strong enough to block and fast enough to take the top off .  He is a physical player and would not be required to know all the passing routes needed by a wide receiver .  Just a thought if we lose Tommy Tremble .

I can see the logic but the glaring issue remains. His hands are not good. I remember when we tried to make Swole Bones a thing at TE. If it were that easy we wouldn't have had such a void at the position over the years.

I thought of that too but concluded that his issues would affect him at TE same as WR.

If they aren’t solved? Fail at either spot.
If they are resolved? He is a WR. But there could be some crossover in how they use him.

I've said before that he could possibly be a Cordarrelle Patterson or Ty Montgomery RB conversion type. I don't see him as a tight end though.

That's what I was kinda thinking after his rookie year but honestly he hasn't shown me any kind of vision or shiftiness as a runner. For a guy with his measurables he sure seems easy to get down.

I like the logic too but…….

Problem with tight end you have to be one of the smartest players on the field.

Understand zones

When to sit to find space on a route

Know the offensive line blocking schemes

Know when to be a hour route for your QB.

Etc…

Legette is in his own head which impacts playing smart and fast. He would get someone killed out there with his errors at tight end.

I’ve always thought he would be effective in a RB/WR role. If I’m not mistaken he was a RB in college before WR.

He could be an effective version of Shenault. He needs designed plays where he gets the ball and just runs.

Isn’t TE considered a lot harder mentally than WR’s for rookies? He barely has the football IQ to stay in bounds as it is. Now double up his playbook with elaborate blocking tasks?

Thats what I’m saying. You’re going to want him to be fluid in finding holes as aTE and he can’t even find the entire field.

    • I think he's gone, and rightfully so, if he turns in another losing record. The "talented roster," regardless of how true or not, is a double-edged sword. If the roster is so much improved now from 202X then why are you still producing losing seasons? On one hand, maybe that's what needs to happen. Have the GM hire the new coach, and then have the new coach pick his guy to run his system. That is typically how it works in the NFL. Not the forced inheritance deal we have had in place.
    • Hinging on Brooks to be our spark...be good if it happens... but not holding my breath....RB next draft. Morgan gambled...it would be a 2 year payoff if thing happened.
    • Only way Canales is fired is if we are attrocious everywhere....  defense /special teams and offense..  There are enough "questions" on if BY9 is the guy that ownership wouldn't fire the coach for "just" mid qb play.  Especially with as talented a roster that has played "well enough" to win some tough football games and hang in there against the top tier of the NFL ...(mostly).   Now total team suckage..yeah .. but I don't see that happening.
