As much as I'd rather had somebody eise, the 1 year let's me know they are looking at a developmental  qb too. I'd like to swing on Bech or The Baylor  Qb in the mid rounds.

I don’t know much about the QBs in this class, but it is interesting there seem to be a few that were up until this past season considered 1st round picks that are now looked at more in the mid rounds (Sellers, Klubnik, Beck more so 2 yrs ago but still). I wonder if one of those types could be the guy. But also there’s probably good reason they lost favor. I remember when Sam Howell was considered a possible #1 pick, then another year in college happened.

It's really some guys to ke that have a shot to be good with the right system. Canales wants mobile qbs that have some upside.  Perfect draft to grab one mid round and build a guy up the way you want.

I mean I’d be fine with either of those but expecting them to push Bryce Young for QB1 any more than Pickett would just seems like wishful thinking and more of “they signed a 1st rd pick reclamation project type but not the one I like most therefore they don’t want to win football games”.

Howell's only true starting season he was sacked 65 times, put up almost 4k yards, ran for 250 and 5 tds while throwing for 21/21. Lot of ints but he was also being asked to do a lot with lots of pressure and no RB help.

I don't think it's even questionable to think he could come in and legitimately compete with Bryce right away.

He couldn’t even beat out Tanner McKee for a backup spot last year. I’m all for it like I said, especially as a UNC fan, but multiple teams have tried him and he hasn’t beaten literally anybody out.

He sucks and won’t push Bryce sadly but he’s also 3x the QB that current Dalton is so at least we’d have a chance in some games if Bryce went down. D should be great with these signings. Still think our upside is way too limited by the QB position though unfortunately. But I can see a winning season and more legit playoff berth this year

I agree.  I don’t think I have ever been accused of being a Howell fan. No more than fan of some other random QB.
But I watched and I saw. He has some talent. Maybe I didn’t watch close enough to see his weaknesses.

Not a fan of this signing but when shopping the clearance table, you get the best you can afford. Very likely others wanted more $$ & years to sign. KP, if you are listening, do something BY has never done. Put in a full off-season of prep work. As soon as you sign, before the ink dries, hit the gym, the weight room, the practice field, the film room, whatever it takes. The Panthers have had a QB who came out of the gate, stumbling for the past 3 years. A game 1 win counts the same as a game 17. BY's starting spot is there for the taking, IMO. IF you really want it you have to take it.

This ^.

It's a back-up QB position filling. It's a bit of improvement at QB2 and it was something that was becoming obvious. Thanks to Andy for putting in the miles here, but it's been a long career and the days were getting shorter.

Every time I try to get on the Morgan train he does some sht like this. No competition for brycie you see..hows Pickett going to improve this team. We should have a high pick in a QB ladened draft for 2027.

    • Would Morgan or Beason have been HOFers' if injuries hadn't derailed their careers?  I was not a close watcher of the game when Morgan was in his prime but I thought Beason had a few seasons at close to Lukes' level of play.
    • Franchise QBs feast when things are rolling and the tide that raises boats when things are going sideways.  Bryce isn't that. He's a complimentary player, that's it.  When the defense and STs are on point, he plays loose and it shows.  When we are in a dog fight and things haven't gone our way, he struggles.  It's that simple. He's not a horrible QB, but he's not top tier either.  So the question begs, is this worthy of a second contract?  The answer should be no.  It definitely is my answer. Bryce will never be a QB that can produce wins largely on his arm.  That's a FRANCHISE QB, any other QB is simply a placeholder at the starter's position until that guy can be found.   At some point the excuses of lack of weapons will be a straw man.  Heck, it's nearly there now.  I mean if he doesn't look even better than last year will we blame it on the TE position?  'Well if Bryce only had a player like Kelce, Kittle or Gronk on this team...'  Are we really going to do that?
    • When I arrived at college, I was 18, not too much younger than some of these draft picks.  It was not a huge school, but there were guys on the team who were 21, 22, 23....playing ahead of me.  I was seventh on the depth chart.  Those guys have been through a few seasons, were stronger, more knowledgeable.  I was a better raw player than some of them, but those other factors matter.  As I grew stronger, more familiar with the playbook, and learned what it was like to play in college, I gradually improved and with that, I rose up the depth chart.  It took most of my freshman year for the light to come on.  Had the coach thrown me into the starting lineup day 1, I would have probably failed.    And that was college.  So I agree with you based on my experience on a much lower level.  Frankly, I think that is why so many kids drafted to fill huge gaps bust.  The teams are desperate.  Anyone who looks to fill vacancies in the starting lineup through the draft is desperate.  You draft depth to develop.  For this reason, I say, "Let Walker start for a while."  Maybe Brazzell can be our WR 4.  Throw Hunter into a rotation and ask him to do one or two things.  Freeling needs some strength and he needs to work on run blocking.
