Round 1: The Carolina Panthers select OT Monroe Freeling (Georgia)

A quick search reveals his athletic score ranks him #2 out of 1500+ OTs evaluated going back to 1987

He’s a physical unicorn who’s 21 years old at a premium position. A gem of a prospect spanning the last 40 years at that position

there’s nothing to currently complain about today.

Some Huddlers will stop talking crazy once Freeling gets his legs under him. Prototypical size, length and athleticism with true LT experience.

He only allowed five pressures and one sack in 700+ snaps. What more do you want from a college prospect? I say we got a little bit of a steal.

Everyone screams BPA until BPA is a guy who goes into OTAs as a 2nd stringer. Which is best case scenario for Freeling because he DOES lack experience. This was the smart call and definitely quite a bit of a steal.

I like Rasheed Walker but let's add in the fact that the Packers drafted Jordan Morgan OT in the 1st in 2024 and in 2025 drafted OT Anthony Belton in the 2nd while already having all pro Zach Tom at RT. It's clear that the Packers were trying to upgrade from Walker and then he only gets a 4-million-dollar 1 year deal in FA. It's very likely that Walker just isn't viewed that highly in the league and Monroe Freeling could very well end up beating him out for the LT job in training camp.

It’s paid PFF stats, but here’s a video that touches on a lot of it.

He slipped on the turf in the underwear Olympics.

He better beat out Walker in camp or this is a wasted pick

I think rookie ot are becoming more like what rookie qb should be. Where they sit and learn for a bit before they're thrown to the wolves. I've seen a decent amount of rookie ot get crushed ( like #4 pick campbell last year) and sometimes they never recover ( like Robert gallery). I don't think too many expect moton to make it through the year unscathed so imo it's wise to sit him for a bit ( unless he blows everyone out of the water) and have him ready when he's needed and then next year we have 1 ot spot sewn up

I was thinking back about 12-years ago when the Panthers started Byron Bell at LT and Nate Chandler at RT.  Those were the days.  Cam was running for his life.

Gettleman forced Jordan Gross into retirement to roll with that, too. Gross had at least another year left in him.

How does a physical unicorn get skipped over by 4 different GM’s who drafted OT? Usually those players fly up the draft boards in the last few months.. Its because his film in real pass drop situations that actually translates to the NFL leaves a lot to be desired.. Yes, he can be great based off his potential, but that’s all projection. That’s not the player he is now. I remember drafting a WR based off “potential and projection” 2 years ago. How’s he doing?

I did not think they would do it--with Walker and Moton and Dave Canales comments about seeing the field immediately. There could be something we do not know, but this also has the potential to make us better at 2 spots--Ickey was average at best--could be an elite G.  Freeling can become an elite LT.  If we get cap room by releasing Hunt in 2027, move Ickey to RG....we got 2 positions covered as we become more cost effective--I get it.  I just did not think they would do it.

That would be nice

If they're thinking that far ahead and detailed then they're playing 7d battleship while everyone else is playing chutes and ladders.

In the video you posted of some rando dudes they were more concerned about his run blocking than pass
