what does Bryce's 2026 season need to look like for you to be oaky with extending him?

10 wins, 30 TDs, 10 INT.

It's a stat line that says he's made it.

Below there and well, then he's not going to get you any deeper into the playoffs. Better than that? I mean, you'd have to take it at face value and think he's grown into the role.

We've got to remember that it took Cam like four years to get the team to the Super Bowl. And he was a much, much bigger guy with a rocket launcher arm. Not every QB comes out born like that.

Of course, it only took Jake one afternoon in the hot Tampa sun to break loose from the nobodies and to a Super Bowl trajectory. That just proves that experts judging someone on their first four years in the league are sometimes incredibly fuging wrong about a QB. Just saying.

Bryce is out of runway.   He needs to get it done this year (whatever that means) or we move on.  Which is why the 5th year option was fuging stupid

For starters, more 300+ games than <200 games. It’s not just about stats though, the main thing is getting better at decision making and accuracy. Stop making passes hard for receivers to catch, throw with better timing, throw them open, hit them in stride, stop making them reach behind or down low. Just be better. Significantly.

3,700 yards + passing

25 -30 passing TDs

> 5 rushing TDs

< 15 INTs

 > 90 passer rating

no costly fumbles

continue clutch performances and lead this team to another division title and a playoff win

The first 3 stats, I agree.  INTs need to be 10 or less and passer rating hovering around 100.  Combined stats, that would make him a top 10 QB.  That is what Bryce HAS TO BE to get an extension for me. Why would we extend a QB that's not a top 10 QB?  That screams 'we embrace mediocrity' by the front office if Bryce shakes out by season's end with a stat line to be, say, QB 16 League-wide and they hand him a nice shiny new deal.

If he lays a big fat egg this year, that fifth year in '27 with him making 26.5M is going to be pretty awkward. I guess we could plan on him starting the year while LaNorris settles in. I would rather that be a veteran though.

It wouldn’t be the first time a player has signed his 5th and then was cut before he played it. Which is what I think the Panthers should do if we draft a QB in 2027.

I dont recall that happening to a qb but my memory has been crap the past few years

Time to hit 4000 yards and 30 TDs (including rushing). I don't care about INTs anymore. That's a big part of the problem. He plays uber conservative until the game is on the line. Playing not to lose, instead of playing to win. Time to let it friggin rip from the get. The team can win with a pick or 2 if he has 3-4 TDs. Stop playing scared.

But to be fair, his WRs have not been great. You all can bash about 1st round picks and O-line cap all you want.

Chuba as your #1 RB his entire career.

Adam Thielen as your best WR for 2 of 3 seasons is ridiculous. Then a rookie as your best in the 3rd season. Legette is not a 1st round talent. Probably closer to a 4th if you compare him to Brazzel this year. Coker has been a walking injury report. Nothing else to really speak of at WR or TE. Jimmy Horn has potential, but he is not an NFL starter yet.

Oline has been better as run blockers than pass blockers. Ickey has always been so-so as a pass blocking LT. Center has been a revolving door for 3 years. Damien Lewis has been as marketed. Hunt is a great run blocker but an ok pass blocker - when healthy. Moton has been solid at RT. Biggest problem with the oline has been depth. When someone went down, their replacement became a glaring weakness. Overall a good but not great unit the last 2 years. 2023 was a ish show. Nothing else to say.

Not one game breaker, take it to the house offensive weapon since DJ Moore. Hopefully we get a little of that from Brazzell.

Either way, in his 4th season, it doesn't matter. You have to be able to overcome whatever comes your way. First 3 seasons with a young supporting cast is defendable. Can't use that anymore though. 3rd year in the offense. 3rd year with the same HC.

Baker was traded before he played his 5th year.
RGIII was cut before playing his 5th year. So it is rare but it happens.

Tired of the excuses for this guy.

Let's make excuses for the other players, maybe the WRs suck because Bryce won't let them go make plays.

It's funny how Bryce passing stats have looked basically the same every season despite him getting more help added each year.

He is not it and the majority of us knew this after his first couple of games.

If he does manage to do it, will you shut up about him?

If he doesn't do it, I'm going to wish him well in the back-up QB roll he'll fall into somewhere and be looking forward to our next attempt at answering the QB question.

    • okay I found this and it sounds like my hopes for the first surgery being not such a great job seems like it could be actual reality.  I only hoped because that would give a better chance for recovery and ia a possible scenario so I just thought it could be possible. Had no real evidence of it. But I’ll be damned.    This is a detailed report of Brooks’ surgery and the condition of his knee after the failed repair.     https://x.com/jmthrivept/status/2055743129408704806?s= Sparked by some very good questions by @CoachspeakIndex, here’s some info on Jonathon Brooks: 1. Speculation that the first graft/ACLR by Dr. Cooper didn’t “take” or at least was too lax, leading to failure and re-tear. Brooks dealt with issues cutting, progressing in his rehab into the early stages of 2024 and then re-tore it late 2024, requiring a second ACLR in January 2025 (essentially revision). Notably, CAR prolonged Brooks’ rehab process through Sept-Oct due to issues progressing into the next stages of rehab. 2. Second surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who has extensive experience with revisions. He did a double bundle technique, harvesting graft from Brooks’ left patellar tendon and a strip of his right IT Band (his right patellar tendon had been utilized for the prior graft in 2023. The double bundle technique significantly increases rotational stability of the knee, leading to a stronger and more secure graft/reconstruction. Also to note, Brooks’ surgery wasn’t significantly delayed, meaning that the tunnels from his prior ACLR were in good shape and they didn’t need to perform bone grafts to fill in (would have delayed 2nd surgery by 5-6 months). Essentially, reading the tea leaves tells me that everything else except for the graft itself was still in good quality within his knee. Good sign for future.  3. Typically, you see a performance increase anywhere from 16-20 months post-revision. Brooks will be ~21 months out from his second surgery by the time Week 1 hits. His knee should be more stable and stronger this time around, with adequate time for healing and return to all movement patterns. I’m not viewing this situation as a typical “Player __ had TWO ACL tears, he’s cooked” situation. Rather, I’m viewing it as the first procedure failed, but the second procedure is significantly stronger and should allow him to return to form this time around. I don’t know why it posted as a link but there it is.
    • Jackie, any more reps tomorrow, or is that it for this session?  thanks for the work
    • How can you say they aren’t trying to win now with all the moves made in free agency? Or is trading first round picks the only way to be win now? I’d be fine never trading another first round pick again, win now be damned.
