Each back will catch a pass. Steve Smith will have an "injury" and sit out this game.(he hates preseason) Tolbert will beast and prompt yet another why did we pay deangelo money thread. AE and Joe Adams muff a punt. Pilares scores. Lafell locks up the #2 spot.

I actually expect this preseason to resemble 2008 when we looked awesome and everyone got the feeling we were set up for something pretty special. It's been a while since we looked legitimately potent in preseason... I think we win 3/4 and the huddle will be juiced and ready for regular season football.

Cam and the 1st team O efficiently drive down the field for a TD. Many starters then get the rest of the night off.

Derek Anderson comes in and lights up the scoreboard, throwing for 275 yards in less than 2 quarters of play, with Armanti Edwards catching 190 of Derek's yards.

Jimmy comes in for 1 1/2 qtrs, throws 3 picks and fumbles once, causing the first loss of the preseason.

Monday morning, Anderson and AE head for Hurney's office and demand their contracts be re-negotiated.

In reality, the first team O will score early. 2nd and 3rd team offenses show flashes but also sputter, maybe putting 13 points on the board. On D, starters play maybe a series (Luke, a little more), and we look a lot like we did the last half of last year (mediocre). Final score, maybe 20 to 17, Panthers.

I predict Anderson has the best stats of the night with 2 TD passes (one in 2nd Q and another in the 3rd). Cam will lead the first team to a field goal on their only sustained drive. Texans up 10-3 after 1st quarter. 13-10 Texans at half. 17-16 Panthers end of 3rd quarter. Clausen leads a good FG drive in the 4th Q to seal the win 20-16.

Panthers ultimately win this meaningless preseason game, but the starters don't play all that well on either side. LaFell and Olsen flash some skill. Stewart stands out among RBs. He gets a TD on the 2nd team's first drive. Murphy gets the other.

Defense has some success rushing the passer in spots. Nakamura is a good fit. Munnerlyn shows us a little something with a pick in the 2nd Q...also gets burned for a TD.

All in all, this game reveals that we are still a work in progress. Some fans will inevitably focus on the win and say that it was a success. Other will focus on Cam's lack of production and worry themselves half to death.

Next game Cam looks much better but we lose. We finish the preseason at 2-2 with one good performance, one bad performance and 2 mediocre ones (Texans is a mediocre one).

Then we slaughter Tampa Bay in Week 1!

    • After watching Dan for 3 yrs now, I think I understand his plan. It’s a simple plan that should work for the long run.     I saw some of this last yr. Dan wants a vet and a young player at each position. I really think we go OT if one they like there. Moton is aging, Icky will not be back until 27, if ever. We need to get ahead of the tackle problem
    • You are just stressing too much about these particular positions. You want to upgrade from Bryce and I understand that but you aren’t going to really get that without getting into a bidding war for a QB2 potential QB1 like Willis. You could possibly trade for Mills or the backup for Chicago but they are still gambles and their teams will won’t decent picks.  Again the Eagles thought KP was a capable enough backup to trade for him once their backup was hurt and won a Super Bowl with him as QB2. The point is most teams aren’t rolling with some stud QB2/3 that is going to push even a bottom tier starter. They are better off the building their roster in other areas. The Rams are rolling with Bennett right now as QB2 for example.  The goal is winning absolutely. We overachieved last year even with stumbling into the playoffs. Another year and this staff needs to take the next step in building a team. Will Grier has little to no impact on that….
    • Three straight first round WRs is straight up Matt Millen poo. Considering the draft capital we have tied up on Bryce after that trade we would basically have spent damn near all of our draft capital in recent years on QB and WR just to put one of the most anemic passing offenses in the league on the field. Clown show poo.
