Panthers meeting with Landon Collins

Debatable that he is even the top safety anymore. Big time liability in coverage and really just a box safety to me. Rather we wait and address the position in the 3rd with someone like Sample or Tartt if he's available. Collins' stock has been falling as of late and will honestly probably be available at 25 but I don't want him there.

There's been a fair amount of huddlers talking about Sample and he seems like a good option.

...but I gotta say though I'm a huge Tartt fan.  Would love for us to grab him more than any other safety in this class.

Eh

I've always loved the idea of that dominant safety roving around creating havoc, but as long as Rivera and Gettleman can find Johnny Nameless in the fourth round and turn him into a starting quality defensive back, I say fug it. I hope we go offense offense offense with our first three picks because that unit looks absolutely pathetic a lot of the time, especially since the boy wonder Mike Shula is calling the same plays his father called 40 years ago.

I would absolutely love:

1st Round- WR

2nd Round- OT

3rd Round- RB

Seems like we've been sniffing around the top rated safeties in the draft for about the last three years.

Because. Rivera learned under Jim Johnson who believed in having big physical safeties in his system. Guys like Brian Dawkins were studs in the secondary and experts at dislodging receivers from the ball. He could play strong safety, free safety, or corner. We either need a big physical corner who can play free safety or a fast athletic safety with good pass defending skills.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
