the way too early next year's draft needs post

Recommended Posts

admit it, there's nothing else to talk about right now, so let's go

We're in really good shape if our picks this year pan out and last year's continue to improve.

What I think we'll be looking for next year in the draft...

Major Needs

Long Term LT   ....  not gonna say a word about this.

DT   ....  we run a rotation, and we have two long termers, but need 3

Left Guard   ....  still working with band-aids here unless Amini finally comes through

Defensive End   ....even if Kony and Big Frank shine this year (and I'm thinking Big Frank will more than you guys,

CJ is nearing the end of his prime, and you can never have enough pass rushers, especially for our scheme.

Strong Safety  ....  we gotta do something here.

Minor Needs

Backup QB     ...DA ain't getting younger

RB  ....JStew ain't getting younger

WR     ...long term speed receiver...hoping Corey makes this go away this year

Center   ...RK ain't getting no younger

TE   ....Greg ain't getting no younger

CB  ....we have 2 good ones.  Need another....I'm counting on Peanut for 1 year only

Safety ....we need depth here

That said, we're in pretty good shape if everything comes together and we don't suffer significant injuries at our weaker positions.   We're finally getting to the point where we can afford some decent FA's,  draft BPA and build depth.

It's stung more than once, but Getty is getting us in position for long term success,  and that means playing in

Super Bowls.

Major needs

LT

SS

Minor needs

3rd DT

Maybe a DE if ealy or one of the other guys doesn't work out

Fast WR with great hands

And you can't say we need people just bc so and so "isn't getting any younger"

no one is. You might as well say every position is a need and we need depth for all of them

Since we had to trade up as much we did we really didn't get the chance to bring in any competition for the secondary and Dline.

If you notice most of our undrafted free agents are those positions.

I would expect us to spend some draft picks there next year.

A little forecasting by me here, based on how I think the season and next offseason go...though we will have money for once in FA to change things...

1. LT - Oher is a stop-gap at best. We'll see on Williams, but he's a RT for now IMO. OL depth in general is needed.

2. SS/FS - Harper is Harper and I'm not as sold on Boston as others. The DL getting pressure doesn't just help him...he needs it IMO. Without it, meh

3. RB - Stewart is gone next year unless he takes an outright pay cut.

4. DE - CJ is due an extension IMO, Ealy showed promise, but it's early. Everyone else is depth at best.

5. DT - Cole and Dwan are old...and it could be a legitimate possibility we can't keep both Star and KK in a couple of years.

6. WR. - KB is a given. Funchess an unknown for now. Philly, largely unknown as well. Ginn was never a WR. BIG TIME FAs here next year though

7. CB - I feel like Norman takes a contract here, but he's still only had 1 season of good play. Bene obviously showed promise, can he continue it?

    • You must be one of these "one move away guys."
    • ESPN has a whole is just hot takes and the dumbest takes possible. That is why it sucks so badly. They intentionally drag everything down to a lightspeed retarded level so that it is unwatchable. No jounalism, no nuance, no in depth analysis....just idiot after idiot blabbering/shouting about some hot button issue that they really have no real strong opinions about until the camera is rolling.
    • Young is the overwhelming priority. We have ample time on them and it's far easier to pivot at WR than QB. Remember that 2026 is year 4 for Bryce. That is 5th year option decision time and also the prime time to attempt to regain resources if a pivot is made. The odds of gaining any assets in a trade afterwards plumment very rapidly(all this depending on performance, obviously). At the end of that cycle, now we are likely in a $45+ million territory for him to remain.  So that decision trumps all others by a mile when it comes to personnel.
