Shula "discouraged" by lack of points....

LACK OF POINTS PROBLEMATIC: Offensive coordinator Mike Shula said it was "discouraging" to produce just 13 points as an offense against the Jaguars, especially considering the favorable field position Carolina obtained.

"We need more points," Shula said. "That was discouraging, that part, because we had really good field position. Not taking advantage of the field position – that’s tough.

"It can come back and hurt you, which it almost did. Our defense played great."

To be fair, this exact quote could have been pulled from 1997-1999 in Tampa Bay.

I can't put a ton of blame on Shula for the lack of points.  We had one TD taken off the board by a ridiculous penalty and Ginn dropped another wide open TD.  Add on those 14 points and that makes 27.  Add on the late blocked FG and there's 30.  That's not even counting the missed 53 yarder, because hey, missed 53 yarders are gonna happen.

We really took the air out of the ball in the 4th quarter with that clock eating late drive and that was the right call at that point in the game IMO.

Can't believe I just defended Mike Shula.  Barf.

Eagles had a drive last night that started on the 5 yard line, had 4 penalties and one drop that would have been for a big gain. They still scored a TD on that drive.

I remember watching that thinking not even in my wildest dreams would a Shula lead offense be able to overcome all that and still score a TD. I know people always want to defend it and say "well yeah if not for that bogus penalty or drop blah blah blah" but it's a problem when a single penalty or drop is a drive killer 90% of the time. Those things happen all the time, good coordinators find a way to overcome them.

I get that the players have to execute. But he has to make better play calls or design better plays. Work around your offensive personnel and make it work. Basically make chicken salad out of chicken shiz.

that does not make any sense at all.......  and, quoting Forrest Gump, that is all I have to say about that !!

its frustrating to hear all these reports about the Cowboys aggressively looking for receiver help when even without Dez they probably still have a better receiving corps than us. And Dez will actually be back this year unlike KB. Before anyone blames the cap can you explain what hurts in giving a veteran a 1 year deal?

Shula!  Shula!  Shula!  Shula!

If Shula walked into the room I am sitting in....I would start a slow clap for him.  And dang it, someone else would join in on that!!

Let's be real.  Shula knows it takes hard work to make a Cam Newton offense boring as fug.  But he knows we work hard all week and need rest on Sundays.  He doesn't won't us getting all excited.  He knows deep down maybe we need a little nap.  For our own good.  Not a big one.  Maybe a little tiny baby one.  He can help.  Shula loves you.

20-12-1.   Until that changes...better stock up on some Red Bull.

    • fuging Christ dude this isnt hard.  Like at all.  I get you simping for this poo team is your thing but sometimes you have to look at reality.   Even removing his bum knee from the equation, none of this made sense.  He is 31.  He has been paid handsomely for his service here.  He was currently under contract for this season.  Why in the holy fug did anything have to be done 2 weeks before the season started.   The people for this move, in this thread are saying A) He deserved it (this is the nfl it doesnt work like that  B) It frees up cap space (then why in the fug didnt we do this in Feb or C) You logic (We are getting a deal at 53 million guaranteed for the next 3 years.   You realize with this deal we cannot cut or trade his ass for 3 years.  You understand this right?   So in my opinion we should have let this ride into the offseason and go from there, what he is going to threaten to walk, big fuging deal he would be 32 on a chronically bad knee, what other moronic franchise is going to give him 40 million up front?  It wasnt going to happen.   And you are acting like its impossible to replace a 32 year old RT with a bum knee.  Just go and draft someone, move Icky to RT.  There are tons of options instead of extending this dude 2 weeks before the fuging season.  The truth is Morgan and the shitheads in the FO fell for this dudes crying act and got all sentimental and shelled out another ext.  We are a poverty ass franchise that doesnt act professionally
    • Amazing what the prospect of being traded to Carolina will do for contract negotiations.
    • 5 Im glad football is back but after the embarrassment that was the browns pre season game where our starting D made Sanders look like a serviceable NFL QB, I lost hope again for a successful Panthers campaign this year.  I do hope I’m wrong!
