Dave Gettleman FIRED as Panthers GM

I thought DG did a good job up until last season. Last season he decided to let his ego get the best of him and took the year off. Our CB situation was because of him. Our tackle situation was because of him. He didn't address our weaknesses. When we could've had a heir apparent to Olsen in Hunter Henry, we drafted a career backup with our first round pick. The reasons for our collapse last season all started with him.

This year though he actually went back doing his job. He drafted well, brought in key free agents. It was probably his best offseason. Which is why I am puzzled as to why he was fired. JR is one of the most conservative owners in the league. Why do this now?  If JR wanted him gone all along, why not fire him at the end of last season? It really does seem like the TD negotiations were the reason for his firing. I'm trying really hard not to believe that because if so, the Panthers really are doomed until JR finally croaks.

Releasing Gman right before Training Camp makes zero sense. If he were to be released do it before the draft and after the season.

I'm with the majority of the Huddle on this: It has to do with the lack of an extension for Davis and Olsen. Big Cat probably still has heartburn over Norman and Smitty's release.

Now, Big Cat, who's driving this bus leading to Spartanburg?

You don't think he could have handled any of those any better?

Don't ask me to get all puppy-eyed about the feelings of millionaires when for the last 10 years I've seen about 30% of my co-workers get the perp-walk out the door carrying a box of their personal items from their former desk.

Don't ask me to shed tears for poor Steve Smith's feelings when to this day I still see young men who might be getting paid 25-30K per year in their job coming home for the final time in flag-draped boxes.

So my answer to your question is I couldn't give any LESS of a fug how it was "handled" if, at the core of the matter, it was the right move to improve the team.

Idk , but it seems like JR has no idea how to run a football team. Let's Fox and Hurney over stay their welcome. Lets (or makes) Hurney destroy our cap. Hire DG who gets us out of cap hell, but doesn't let him choose his coach. Keeps Shula and Rivera, but fire DG after he had his best offseason right before training camp all because of butthurt feelings. I just don't understand.
