Observations from camp today...

- Ian Thomas continues to look like a legit NFL tight end. He has to work on finishing plays still, but man is there potential. He almost caught a nice TD at the end of practice but had it pushed out of his hands by Donte Jackson.

- DJ Moore got dinged up a bit today on a play, at which point I nearly passed out. Please no more of that stuff.

- Cam Newton gave a long motivational speech before practice. HE said he could decide to wake up and be Captain Munnerlyn, or he could wake up and decide to be outstanding. LOL

- I'd really like to see Tyler Larsen get work at starting left guard, but Amini still pretty much has that position entrenched.

- Cam and CMC are talking more now between plays than they used to. Getting that chemistry going even more I reckon.

- Byrd still is hot and cold. Had a pretty bad drop today in team drills. I don't think his roster spot is a sure thing but it is probably likely.

- Luke made a beautiful move on the ball today and deflected it away from Greg Olsen. The NFL refs in attendance called defensive holding, at which point Luke gave him an earful. Mid season form already.

- There were about 6 people lined up with Peppers jerseys on the fence wanting them signed, Pep smiled and walked by. I explained to the folks he is probably the most shy person on the squad. Don't take it personal.

- The secondary is still giving the passing game all it can take at this point. I am starting to think Donte Jackson wins that second CB role. He is improving at a good clip.

- I am seeing more two tight end sets than in recent memory.

- CMC continues to show his running is evolving. Much left shifty dancing, much more hit the hole fast and run like hell.

Amini has photos of Rivera--I dont see how you get better by getting worse at any position.

Bradberry seems to be better--the new scheme and less blitzing will help.  Jackson is playing like a guy who expects a starting role.

Jackson / Bradberry / Seymour /  Elder / Doss / Munnerlyn  / Gunter--I like group.

QUESTION:  HAS HALL DONE ANYTHING AT ALL?

    • I'll say 6. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition and will do more to help the defense than anyone. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole there. For all the hype surrounding Sanders and Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
    • 2010 was worse. Not much worse but worse.
    • Lol since 2017 the Panthers are 47-85,    Also since 2017 the Giants are 40-91-1   Lol
