How low is the bar for Mahon?

I'm excited. Hate for the injury to anyone but I don't think it is that much of a downgrade. In fact I will be patient with him.  But this does point out the underlying real issue.  That we have a good prospect in Larsen but can't let him get reps because the guy we pay 9 mil at C can't survive a season.  Hamstrings the rest of the line.

I'm hoping both Mahon and Moton prove to be on the same par as the 2 they are replacing with much higher ceilings over time.

JR has a way of doing that to a team. You can argue about Davis but IMO both should have been gone this year. Younger talent behind them and we would have been able to have more cash in other areas. Norwells contract was absurd and we would have never paid a guy 16 million to be a LG but at least we could have been better off in other areas.

At this point, I just want an LG that is going to consistently do their job. No peaks and valleys. I don't need to see a world beater, I just need to see somebody go out there and not fug up. Sure, they'll get beat now and again because the defense practices too, but at this point just somebody that can do their job will suffice. Let guys like Turner and Ryan be the "playmakers" on the OL.

I don't get what's up with Rivera. Why are we even looking at this guy when we have Sirles AND LARSEN WHO STARTED MOST OF LAST YEAR

Geriatric Ryan Kalil us part of the answer. Larsen has been getting most of the reps at Center I believe to keep Kalil fresh. And Sirles has being prepped as Swing Tackle given we now have no tackle depth.

Obviously that could now change. Maybe Larsen moves to LG and Van Roten starts playing C.

If Sirles starts at LG I don't know who we have as back up tackle.  Clausell? Yikes Yikes Yikes.

The Panthers have to be hardcore watching the waiver wire. When cut downs start happening there will be some talent to grab. Maybe a high priced vet gets cut if a young guard or tackle emerges on another team. Panthers have ended up with some good players that way - Dwan Edwards comes to mind. Backup tackle and starting LG is a huge need right now.

At this point Id trade a decent pick for a G

it sucks when you hit on picks and UFDAs YOU CANT RETAIN YOUR MOTHER FUGGIN TALENT

the league should allow guys you draft or sign as UFDAs an extra cap space bonus.   Like norwells contract would only count for 60% of his cap hit.

It would reward teams who build through the draft to retain guys

what a fuggin shame

So who's gonna trade a good guard? Who are you targeting?

I believe he asked how LOW it is, not how high bro. Norwell is a phenom..I doubt anyone plays at that level ever again at that LG spot.

Never set expectations too low.  That's how you end up settling for the likes of Amini.

Reverse those and it's not bad. Rather have Larsen calling the protections. I honestly don't know if Van Roten is decent or not, but he's got experience and knows the line calls, so that's a plus.

    • Cooter, Kurb, others have passed on to glory….  Praise be.
    • Oh good for them! Hope this is the start of a long happy time in their lives here.
    • There was no reason to believe in either Cam or Jake as a top tier elite QB before those seasons either. Cam was an "athletic" QB in most people's minds and his passing skills were open for debate. And there was a bit to that as he was still trying to get that massive power in his arm tamed to be able to put some touch on his passes. And then, he did it. Missiles became bombs, the firing lanes became points of finesse. Cam grew up and leveled up, while still retaining the ability and drive to truck people whenever he wanted. And Jake... no one freaking believed in Jake except Jake himself. He got, and let's be honest with this, one chance in a losing game to make something out of his career. And he rose to the occasion like some kind of mythical hero and continued to do so for the season. He became a true leader for the team, and his gunslinger capabilities rehabbed Moose's career and created Smitty as a force in the league. Smitty went from a barker to a biter. But no one believed in Jake going in. And they trashed him on his way out. Now Bryce... who knows? I've seen some improvement. Maybe he finds his footing. His teammates seem to love and respect him and that means a lot. The game should be moving at his speed now. He has weapons available to him and maybe a defense that doesn't just roll over by the third quarter. And his coach seems to be moving this team in the right direction. Could he do it? It's up to him, if he can find the magic like Jake and Cam did. But don't doubt this, magic is really, really hard to find.
