Deshaun Watson: 'More accurate, faster, elusive than Cam Newton'

I haven't seen enough of Watson to make what I would consider an informed comparison, but I'll say this.

Football analysts, even good ones (Theismann isn't) all too often get captivated by the "shiny new toys".

Yeah Watson played what 10 games? No game film on him at all for opposing defenses. Cam won MVP with zero weapons, terrible offensive coaching staff and 4 years of film on him. Extremely dumb to think of Watson anywhere near Cam.

Besides Michael Vick, what other QB in the league or coming into the league can pull off the football skills Cam Newton did against Tampa Bay when he ran for what seemed like 50+ yards while juking every NFL player out of their cleats for an1st down.

so says Joe Theismann

"I think he has a chance to be MVP of the league this year," former quarterback Joe Theismann said in a telephone interview. "I thought he was off to a terrific start last year. He has a rare combination of athleticism and ability to work from the pocket.

He's more accurate than Cam Newton, faster than Cam Newton, more elusive than Cam Newton."

I wonder if Joe knows who Deshaun’s hero was in high school and college and who he aspired to be?

I remember when Joe Theismann tried to equate Santana Moss with Steve Smith...

He hasn't been relevant since Lawrence Taylor destroyed his leg... he wants so bad for the Redskins and by extension Joe Theismann to be relevant again... he is a sad man

Watson looked impressive in his limited outings last year but this is just hyperbole.

Slightly off topic, but I was once on a plane with Joe Theisman, both of us in first class. When the plane pulled up to the gate, we both headed straight to the nearest Men's room and peed. Joe didn't wash his hands.

I worked in DC in the 80s, never has an athlete been so universally disliked

i came into the office one day and they were replaying the video of him getting his ankle broken over and over again

he treated his wife and the woman he left her for like poo and was a ProAm in Winston Salem and treated the volunteers like poo

cant stand the guy but that’s ok, he likes himself enough to make up for all of the hatred

I’m a Clemson fan.  Love Watson.  Watson is nowhere near the runner Cam is.   Not close.  Hell, Kelly Bryant who followed Watson at Clemson is a better runner than Watson too.

Cam a much stronger arm

Watson has better accuracy, touch and placement on short to mid range balls.

Watson has that clutch gene that can’t be explained and can’t be denied.

In terms of individual dominance in college? Cam was more dominant.  Watson was the better overall player imo

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
