Under Texas law, Class C Assault is defined in Section 22.01(a)(2) and (3) of the Texas Penal Code as being if an offending person "Intentionally or knowingly threatens another with imminent bodily injury" or "causes physical contact with another when the person knows or should reasonably believe that the other will regard the contact as offensive or provocative."

Considered the lowest-level assault charge in the state of Texas, a Class C Citation can be filed against a person solely based on the words of the accuser. A conviction is punishable by a maximum fine of $500.

As of Thursday evening, the Panthers have yet to comment on the citation issued for Butler. It is currently unknown exactly if or how this will affect his status for Friday night's preseason game against the New England Patriots. The charge also likely makes Butler susceptible to discipline from the National Football League.

No word on his court date.

There doesn't seem to be any video from the club. I wouldn't expect a club of that nature to have active cameras inside.

It's a misdemeanor with a max $500 fine so he could plead guilty and avoid court, pay the fine. But would that lead to a civil suit from the lady? She's claiming harm, the police report says no injuries.

Well, with DJ Moore speeding and now this bullsht, I guess the Tepper honeymoon period may be coming to an end and he'll likely get involved in some disciplinary discussions.

DJ's speeding ticket will probably cost him more than $500. These are things you'd rather not deal with, but in the grand scheme of things they're pretty minor.

I'm more concerned with the Butler situation than DJ's though. The NFL is super reactive about domestic violence type situations right now and it's absolutely a guilty until proven innocent environment they've created. They horribly botched that Ray Rice incident and they've been overreacting to try to make up for it ever since.

Only when the media talks about it, as sad as that sounds (remember, nothing happened to Hardy until after the Rice video came out).

Unless this gains traction somewhere in big media, I don’t expect he’ll face any discipline soon.
