It’s a good thing for us. Thompson in some draft info may be falling to the 3rd with the way he ended the season (bad against Clemson). FA safeties abound and like last year they weren’t paid much. Mathieu got the most at $7m for 1 season. We should be able to sign Reid pretty cheap and honey get a guy like Collins or Mathieu for not much more. They’re really devalued contract wise.

Positional value comes into play with first round picks as well. Do you really want to invest a pick in a safety when they are among the cheapest positions to fill via free agency?  Makes more sense to go with a position where you either can't find quality free agents or they cost a fortune.

That’s true. I guess if you really had everything you need, a complete team and you were really one piece away then ok.

we suck— and one draft and FA with Cam on the mend isn’t going to win us a Super Bowl so I think I would throw up if Hurney pulled a 2008. We all want to forget what happened the next 2 seasons thereafter.

yuck

Hurney had to be talked out of trading a future first, the very pick the Panthers would use to select Cam Newton. It's the one story that gives me pause going into every draft with him at the helm, despite his performance in the 18 draft.

I would be fine with the next selection on there- Simmons is a beast.

Simmons is BPA for Panthers

Stopping the run

Comands double team

Can rush passer

 Can line up as DE

Can run sideline to sideline

Tackles for loss

etc etc , will Turn Luke back into 2015 form.

If he’s the pick, then he is. I like that you have a choice that you put out there— nothing bad I can say about the pick—

i think from watching the videos and draft reports that Ed Oliver would be better,.. but who knows. Some have compared Ed to Aaron Donald—

if we traded short and drafted one of these and used the draft picks from Short to draft another DE, a Center, DB or even another tightend I would be happy.

I know it is cool to make fun of media types but to expect these guys to exactly match the player to the team is a bit unrealistic.  All it takes is one team early to pick someone different to have a trickledown effect all the down the first round.

What you are looking for is the range that they have these players and a lot of these guys tend to be very accurate.  That’s not to say that Kiper is the best or worst but people need to look at the ranges.

Personally im a bit surprised the BC DE isn’t on the list.  Also the i lineman are a bit higher than I expected.  I think  a few of them might be there at 16.

Kiper has one job and that is to make mock drafts.  He should know the needs of the teams at least

I like Jawann Taylor and Risner— Taylor would have to start on the right but I like his motor and ability— doesn’t seem like he would be lazy.

he looks like he has all the talent to move to the left at some point too.

it would be awesome if he fell to our 2nd pick, dont think so— half the mock drafts have him in the top 20.

I think either Taylor or Williams might be there for us at 16.  We just need a couple QB hungry teams to go get Haskins and Murray.  Or have another sleeper QB emerge like Trabisky did to help us out.  Depending who teams rank higher one of those tackles should go before us.  But the other might be available.

If the Bengles or lions don’t go for White from LSU he might be there as well.  But I’m not sure about drafting another LB.

    • Congratulations do they know who the father is?
    • In my opinion Fitterer was probably right about not paying McCaffrey. Now not wanting to "pay RBs" in my opinion isn't something you want to set in stone, to me it all comes down to the individual.
    • Maybe I'm just not understanding, but everywhere that I have read says that signing bonuses go against the cap prorated by as much as five years. The following example uses Andrew Luck's rookie contract as an example. "Take Andrew Luck, the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Luck signed a four-year contract with the Colts worth $22.1 million and included a $14.5 million signing bonus. Rather than a $14.5 million cap hit in 2012, the Colts spread out his signing bonus over the life of his contract. The hit against the cap would be $3.625 million per year over four years instead of a direct cap hit of $14.5 million directly in 2012. This gave the Colts more leverage and cap flexibility in signing other players." https://www.the33rdteam.com/nfl-signing-bonuses-explained/ I don't know why some of you think that signing bonuses aren't counted against the cap over the length of the contract, but whatever.   "The bonus with a signing is usually the most garish aspect of a rookie contract. Bonus is the immediate cash players receive when they ink a deal. It factors into the cap, but only for the whole contract duration, in terms of salary cap calculations. In the case of Bryce Young’s $24.6 million signing bonus, that’s prorated to approximately $6.15 million per season over a four-year deal. This format allows teams to handle the cap and provides rookies with some short-term fiscal stability, which is important given the high injury risk in this league." https://collegefootballnetwork.com/how-rookie-contracts-work-in-the-nfl/ I understand how signing bonuses can be a useful tool in order to manage the cap, and as one of the article suggests, signing bonuses may become important if you have a tight cap, but the bill is always going to come due. I'm not necessarily referring to you Tuka, but it seems to me that others simply don't want to understand that fact which is why they're reacting to what I'm saying negatively. How odd. In any event, I have a better general understanding of why signing bonuses are used now, and it's generally to fit salaries under the cap. Surely players, whether they be rookies or not, love a signing bonus because they get a good portion of their money up front. This in turn gives them more security and probably amounts to tax benefits as well. I also understand why teams would not want to use signing bonuses, particularly for players or draftees who have a higher probability of being gone before a contract even ends.
