The Carolina Panthers have selected Brian Burns, defensive end from Florida state with the 16th pick in the 2019 NFL draft.

Strengths
  • Basketball athlete with silky hips and sudden feet
  • Upfield burst forces tackles out of pass slides and into gallops and sprints
  • Alters rush speeds with sudden bursts around or inside the pass set
  • Long third step propels him to clearance at the top of the arc
  • Tremendous lower-body flexion for 45-degree edge bend
  • Ability and quickness to shadow scramblers once he finds the pocket
  • Hits well-timed jump-cut counters back inside
  • Capable, smooth spin moves in either direction
  • Quick lateral slides help find the B-gap
  • Arm-over or upper-body turn to quickly bypass edge blocks
  • Fluidity to potentially drop and cover
  • Good speed to pursue as tackler
Weaknesses
  • Thin frame with spindly limbs
  • Frame might not be able to handle enough weight
  • Lacks functional play strength
  • Lacks necessary dog for consistent combat at point of attack
  • Gives away his position when setting edge
  • Allows length to go to waste, catching too many blocks with shoulders
  • Sticks to blocks once he loses his frame
  • Struggles to play through redirect blocks on inside moves
  • Will have issues converting speed to power at top of the rush
  • Needs more strength and force as hand fighter

Dude was a fugging MONSTER in a 3-4 and was on par with Von Miller.

Then when they changed schemes even when it didnt fot him he produced

Statistically and athletically he is on par with Miller was coming out

Don't believe me, look it up

Kid can play OLB in a 3-4. As Mcshay said can even play 4-3 OLB like Barr

    • Sounds encouraging.  I agree about the LB....I was CERTAIN second round would be a LB.  I would also like to add that, on paper, DL looked solid--but only 1 performed well in 2025 (2 if you count Robinson, who is now gone).  I am guessing they feel that the LB play will improve with the improvement up front--logical.  Remember the old rule (not sure who said it first) "You build from the inside out, front to back."   We drafted, in my early opinion, a starting NT and C this year.  inside out, front to back.
    • Agree--I think a mid-level tackle but he could prove to be an elite G--not sure how he would do at RT--or maybe Freeling---lotta moving parts--but I would look at him at G if mid-level T is his ceiling--he has been improving, but the injury..
    • Worked an event that many players were at including Ickey. Talked to him, looks and walks around good/normal. Taylor Moton released a new Tequila with his partner Matt Kahlil. Taylor looks great and is psyched for the season. He's such a good guy. Even Derrick Brown, very focused. It's like a quiet, calm I'm gonna rip through you confidence. Building his forever home and sticking around CLT. Bryce stopped in, but was upbuilding talking to the guys, not drinking, smoking cigars like others. There was little different aura with them, almost a quiet confidence, some fun. Reminded me of the 2013-2018 era. Had an event Tuesday with TD (he was there last night too) and he thinks the team looks real good, maybe just needs an another LB. He loves the Devin Lloyd pick up.  No negative comments, just giving a nice update on some players.
