Bruce Irvin playing against Texans

He should add value to the rotation. If not, give his spot to someone else and move along. We have had a lot of success at his position this year and I'm not sure yet/still what he can contribute but I would be nice to get it rolling one way or the other. Hopefully this adds to the run support and doesn't take snaps away from guys playing well in his absence.

Has it actually been that bad without him, though? :thinking:

It’s been pretty damn good without him. I would say we don’t even need him but with Haynes probably out it will be good to have him as depth. I really hope this doesn’t lead to fewer snaps for Burns, but it probably will since Burns took over what was supposed to be Irvin’s starting spot on the left edge and Burns was originally supposed to be primarily on the right edge rotating with Addison.

Burns’ ability to rush extremely well from both sides has really impressed me. I wonder if we could see a rotation where Burns plays 40% of the snaps on the left and 40% of the snaps on the right for a total of 80% of the edge snaps. Then Irvin plays 50% on the left, Addison plays 50% on the right with Miller covering the remaining 20%.

Reduce the workload for the old guys, take advantage of Burns ability to rush from both sides and hopefully disrupt any game planning the opposing offense plans to use against him. Each OT would have to prepare for 3 different guys.

I would argue that his injury has been a blessing in disguise.  If not for his tweaked hammy, Brian Burns would've been a situational/rotational player with much fewer snaps than he has now.  Ron would've brought him along at a snail's pace like he has with other rookies.  We've now seen that Burns is the real deal, I mean, isn't he rated the 4th best pass rusher in the entire league?  He never would've got that if Bruce was healthy.  But I am all for a healthy Bruce and Brian tandem.  Can't wait to see what havoc they cause this Sunday.

Gotta be careful with Burns, over use early in the season could tire him out down the stretch.  We will get more out of him if he stays fresh.  The rookie wall is very real.

I think Irvin is going to add to the pass rush but he's also very capable of covering in space.  Thats not something all of our OLB can do well.

Solid vet that will help the defense who is eager to come back from injury to play;

Huddle: Man fug that guy defense has looked fine without him. Will probably just get injured again.

Seriously, wtf is wrong with some of you?

They would rather continue to develop Burns, Miller and Haynes than give their snaps to a 30 plus vet.

Hope he can stay healthy and produce, but I agree with this...I don't want Ron pulling snaps from the young guys to appease the vets.
