This sucks. If you want to make the playoffs earn it, if you don't earn it.... sit at home.

Still applies but the bar is lower.

Im totally ok with this. The NFL has so many games won or lost by a fumble or missed kick, basically a single play, that not always the best team actually makes the playoffs.

The BEST playoffs are when you play a series of games. Obviously you cannot do that with football so Im fine with more teams in the tournament.

Good stuff.  Now have team record decide the seeding and we will be set because some division winners are just average teams.

I think its fair to have the division winners have a higher seed.  Comparing teams within a division is the only way to correct for scheduling quirks, like one division facing a super easy schedule while another one going thru a much tougher series of games.  Only twice have I seen division winners with losing records make the playoffs in recent history, and both of them won their respective games.

Suddenly that bye week in the playoffs just got more precious and more teams have a shot at the prize.

If they can work out some equitable pay for the players, then hooray for everyone!

More teams? Yeah, I disagree with that completely. NFL hasn't had a Wild Card weekend team in the Super Bowl in over 8 damn years now. poo's not changing either.

You know the Wild Card team is supposed to be a miracle chance at best, right?

In the end, it doesn't dilute the game nearly as much as having two teams with bye weeks for each conference especially if those spots were locked in before the week 17 games.

I think many people share this opinion and I respect it and am in no way attacking you when I say this.  Your opinion of whether you like it or not does not matter 1 bit.

Using easy math,  lets say there are 10 million NFL fans In total. 5 million hardcore fans love it and the other 5 take your stance Despite this stance disapproval 80% of those who hate it will most likely WATCH the extra playoff games. The NFL now has 9 million people watching their new play toy which equates to more TV and ad revenue.

Doesnt matter who likes it or not.  All that matters is if you’ll will watch it.

    • Kind of where I'm at on this also. I think he has the potential to be an all pro caliber guard if he can come back 100%. He's more mauler than quick. Hunt is making 20m per, Moton is making 22m. Moton is a better RT than Icky is a LT so I think the pay comp would probably be about the same there. I don't see Icky as a 28m per season LT. He'll be low 20s and as an elite guard, i think he'd be within a couple mill of that.
    • I read that Pittsburgh is a possibility.  I think of college QB studs who had some form of mental quirk yet tons of talent--but their issue made being a team leader difficult and it led to their demise--going back:  Jamarcus Russell, Art Schlichter, Jeff George, etc. I think people forget that the QB must not only have talent, but they must lead.
    • I wish I knew more details, but the NIL money to 20-year olds combined with easy access to gambling sites is a side effect that these kids may not have considered.  To your point,A famous 2009 Sports Illustrated article titled “How (and Why) Athletes Go Broke” estimated that 78% of retired NFL players go bankrupt or face significant financial stress within two years of leaving the league.  I am guessing that ego and $$$ and the thrill of competition (most pro athletes love competition because they are the winners) makes it a powerful temptation.  Throw in the ease of gambling on your phone which is always in your hand, and I see your point x 10.
