Austin Ekeler's extension was for four years, 24 million, and he had 1000 receiving yards

can I just say that Ekeler did not have 1000 receiving yards last year? yeah he got close.  but he didn't hit it.  not according to PFR anyway.  He also accounted for >800 yards less from scrimmage, and 8 less TDs than CMC.

and hell CMC did something similar in 2018 too - remember, this wasn't like CMC busted onto the scene out of nowhere this year.

Austin Ekeler in his first 3 years: 1371 rushing yards (4.8 YPC), 1676 receiving yards, 22 total TDs

Christian McCaffrey in 2019: 1387 rushing yards (4.8 YPC), 1005 receiving yards, 19 total TDs

And you really made a thread asking why McCaffrey got paid a lot more?

Really?

While this thread is very dumb, you also have to talk about what teams these players were playing on, what scheme they were playing in, and what QB they had behind center.

Let's start with the QB.  While Rivers is clearly diminishing, he is FAR better than anything that we had under center last season, especially at the short passing game.

Now the pieces around them.  CMC has a good, but very young and inexperienced WR, a decent WR, and an old broken down TE that he shared the field with.  Eckler was out there with Hunter Henry, Mike Williams, and Keenan Allen....all of them are better than anything that we fielded last year.  Any RB coming out of the backfield could have a heyday catching passes what that group on the field.  Eckler was the 4th most talented pass catcher on his team....CMC is the best.

Scheme.  We didn't have one.  We had a QB who couldn't deliver the ball to his WR's, and CMC...that's about it.

There’s really no point in trying to explain calculus to a 2 year old. Appreciate the effort but sometimes people are just stupid.
