Hate the idea of trading up for a QB. It would take a ransom to get one of the top prospects and if we're trading a bunch of picks, we won't have the ability to shore up our other weaknesses. We'll go into 2021 with a rookie QB, awful O line, a half dozen holes on defense, and end up with about 4 wins. Then we have the great privilege of giving our top 3 2022 draft pick to the team we traded up with. No thanks.

If we are in range for Fields he is the difference maker in taking this franchise to an entirely different level.

I don't generally like trading draft capital, and my mouth scrunches with every pick dealt. That being said, I'm going to trust the decision makers! They've made us at least competitive for 75-95 percent of most games with a Swiss cheese squad, so if they want to add one thick piece of meat, or several slices, I'm good with it.

Have you actually looked into this or just taking out of your ass? Like really...

Because I have.

Before this game they were about 4-5 spots better than that oline. That’s with a quick release QB and plays that take about 1/3 of the time Shula plays took to develop or cam held onto the ball or extended the play.

So, no, considering that, the oline is not better than Cam’s worst year.

Looking at our line, Daley & Moton are capable.  Okung is solid when healthy but yes, it's a sh*tshow.  Doesn't mean you still can't address it.  Grabbing a QB of the future doesn't mean you can't build the line.

I'm also a firm believer of building from the lines out but this draft is going to be a really nice chance to grab a franchise QB.  Depending on the capital needed to move up/where we end up picking, we could still have a 3rd, 4th rounder.  Bills took Josh Allen, then found Dion Dawkins right before we got Moton (They traded up because Beane knew we were targeting him).  Many teams have built their great OL from all over the place.  Bakhtiari, arguably the best LT in the game, was a pick after Kugbila.   We just haven't been picking the mid rounders correctly.  Same with FAs, Paradis, Kalil, we're just not grabbing the right guys.  So let's not mortgage most of our draft, but hey, maybe we throw this year's 2nd, a 5th, and some future picks.  I don't think something like that is this detrimental ignoring-the-OL madness some make it out to be.  That's a team identifying they found their QB and are trading up to assure themselves of that QB.  For me, that's Justin Fields and possible Zach Wilson.

Not sure about this. An upgrade at qb would be nice, but there are upgrades in every draft. I'm not a fan of trading away what it costs to move up in round 1. Panthers got 3 solid long term starters in the first two rounds. Trading that away for 1?

It depends on where we end up but to be less hyperbolic, I'm advocating to move to #3 if we are picking let's say pick 5 through 10 which is likely looking ahead at our schedule.  We were very interested in Herbert so it's not like we're shutting out the idea of a QB and both Fields and Wilson are putting together seasons that are simply hard to ignore right now.  I'd like to grab one of them.

Like what?

I don't know much about Fields but here are my Teddy problems:

1.  Lack of aggression.   WAY too often he takes a check down.  Yes, sometimes that is a good play but right now we have Anderson, Moore, and Samuel.  That's probably Top 3 best WR corps in the NFL.   He needs to throw the ball down field more often.  I don't even mean deep shots.  Just throw the intermediate stuff.   He is too quick to come off is 1st/2nd reads.

2.  Pocket presence is hit or miss.  At times he avoids the rush and keeps eyes downfield.  At times, he is horrible at feeling pressure and runs into a sack.

3.  Severe lack of clutch gene.   It feels that pressure gets to him and he gets lemon booty.    He is not the only reason we have lost games on the final drive but he is a big one.   In the NFL, a lot of games come down to the final possession or 2.  We can't have a QB that folds under pressure.

I'm not sure if I'm sold on trading up for a QB because other holes need to be filled too.  But after game 9 of Teddy, he is not a franchise QB that I want to see the team build around.

*I'm not saying he is bad.  He isn't.  He is slightly above average.  But that's not good enough in today's NFL to be a consistent contender.

Lack of aggression.

This is the biggest issue with Teddy. When he is forced to play will a little more aggressiveness he does fine, but he should not be forced to. At some point he needs to take a chance and trust his play makers.

Okung and Daley are capable. So was Dan Morgan, but he might actually have been better at staying healthy than Okung is at this point in his career.

Counting on them makes about as much sense as counting on Matt Kalil to be "really finally healthy this time".

Unless you get Taylor Moton under contract, you're looking at rebuilding all five positions and trusting that task to the guy who thought Greg Little was the left tackle of the future.

And that's the situation you want to throw a young quarterback into?

No.
