Yes, this topic has come up before, but having seen us drop out of range for a top QB (unless we give up the farm), I think he would be a viable option to build around with out giving up much.

A couple of points -

Darnold was higher rated coming out of college than both Fields and Wilson. He has struggled, but I think it's fair to say that working with Gase, whose track record is less stellar than, say, Rivera's - whom some say ruined Newton's career - doesn't give us much of a picture of his potential.

Darnold is still only 23, has a lot of potential, and still cheap. Darnold is younger now that Burrow, who many fans would love to have right now, has more arm talent and with coaching can develop better decisions making.

Lastly, a second or 3rd round pick is a much more reasonable gamble, than say a giving a up a one next year to move up. If it doesn't work out, you can still try next year, and you could come away with a cornerstone defensive player like Parsons, or a great OT like Slater 

In short, if the Jets go with a QB, take a chance, trade for Darnold.

A second would be too high IMO. He might be a player to consider if the QBs we want aren’t there. Grab a good LT and try to get Darnold for a 3rd, C in the second and extend Moton. If would give him the best line he has has plus weapons in CMC, Moore, Anderson, and any FAs we sign.

I would absolutely give up a 3rd round pick for Darnold. But....I think the Jets are going to draft Sewell and have an all-pro caliber OL and develop Darnold with a different coach. They’re at the bottom of the league in sacks allowed.

Darnold has a better arm than everyone in this class other than Lawrence. Get him out of NY and with a capable supporting cast and I think he’s a playoff capable QB. So..if the opportunity is there to trade for him I would absolutely do that and let him compete with TB for the starting spot. Then spend the first round pick on another position we need like MLB, CB, TE. Coming out of the draft with Parsons, Farley, or Pitts and Darnold for a 3rd would be a win.

Why would we give up anything for this guy?  I do get it, his coaching has been awful.  NO DOUBT.  But man, watch his decision making.  He makes some really sketchy decisions at times.  I'd say you could coach that out of him - perhaps - but he's been doing stuff like that since college.

Would I give up a CONDITIONAL 2022 pick?  Yea, I might.  If he makes the team, we give up a 6th, if he starts half or more of our games, a 3rd.  That's the only way I'd touch him.

If we're gonna kick the tires on any current NFL QB, my pick is Carr.

Dude is seriously slept on and Gruden really, really wants him gone for whatever reason. Absolutely can win a ring with him.

That said, I'd rather take the faller from Lance, Fields or Wilson (my current order.)

That's not going to happen until after the draft so you have to decide whether Darnold is your target and draft accordingly.  If we win on Sunday this might be the best option for QB. 

I think Darnold would thrive in this system.  He'll have plenty of weapons.

Somebody will trade for him. If an nfl team traded for Rosen, no way Darnold goes long enough to get released. Redskins, colts, patriots... Someone will trade for him.

If he were released and just out there on the free agent market with a low, low price tag, sure. 

Actually trade for him? Would you buy a relatively new car that had been driven around wildly by someone who wasn't just a bad driver, but who had apparently driven it with the intention of damaging it to the point that someone was going to have to buy them a new one? Would you pay full market value for it?

He might make a good reclamation project, but I'm just not sure he's worth what the Kelly Blue Book says right now, if you catch the metaphor.

      TAMU had such a weird draft. Usually you'd be bragging your ass off about three DL drafted in the top two rounds except that the narrative around all three was about how badly they were misused by TAMU. LOL

      Many Panthers fans are already excited about second-round selection Nic Scourton for a variety of reasons including but not limited to: the Panthers needed to recharge the position group, Scourton had a late first-round grade according to many (including the Panthers), and he fit this season's modus operandi of stopping the run now and forever. However, Scourton was seen early on as one of the top-3 EDGE guys in this class but fell due to not having quite the season at Texas A&M as he did prior at Purdue (his sophomore season). It's been revealed since then a few different things that speak to that dip in production... Texas A&M, for one, requires each player on their line to be able to hold two gaps. This also explains why we saw low production across the board from the other two TA&M prospects but were still being heavily touted. Scourton was also said to have bulked up to 280lbs in order to fulfill this role and noticeably suffered from it. He's expected to play this season with Carolina at 255 - 260 which is very different from most situations. In most situations, teams are wanting players to gain 15 - 30. Since Scourton is going to be playing at his Purdue weight, I thought it would make sense to dive more into that tape. Y'all... we might have gotten something special... Let's take a quick peek at the stats before we start drooling over some highlights. First, a summary of the last two seasons for Scourton: Second, the game splits: The first thing that pops up for me is how Scourton's sack numbers were cut in half his senior year. We've already pointed out issues with scheme that impacted the TA&M linemen from racking up numbers, but seeing the game splits it's clear that Scourton didn't exactly feast on inferior competition while at Purdue. He had two two-sack games (vs. Michigan (2023 - 2024 champs), Indiana) and a 10-tackle game (vs. Nebraska). I also see the 2024 games where he went up against two top-10 tackles (Will Campbell from LSU + Armand Membou from Missouri) that I watched leading up to the draft.  For those who just want a summary: Scourton looked elite at Purdue and is going to be rotating in often during his rookie campaign. I originally had him penciled in as the second-string, strong-side edge defender behind Clowney but I wouldn't be surprised to see the team have him and Pat Jones II moving around when they rotate in in order to find where Nic looks best.       Yea, i honestly think he had almost as much say as Dan.  One of the main reasons I think that is Eager has said before he was ever with the Panthers, that you trade away picks for a qb and for any other position you do pick swaps, and that's exactly what we did.
