Or, as Onmyown pointed out, trade our best talent and our ability to address the holes for the next three years, essentially recreating the situation we had when our offensive philosophy was basically "we have Cam Newton."  And then they will complain that our offensive philosophy is "we have Deshaun Watson" and we have not done anything to get him any help.

It's like we have people who hated the Hurney-Rivera methodology so much they want to recreate it!

Yeah, I pointed out yesterday that if we were to give up players that they would likely want, it's going to be difficult pills to swallow, like Brian Burns or DJ Moore not bloated contracts like CMC or Teddy Bridgewater. 

I am not against trading a bunch of picks for Watson but I also am very well aware of that no-trade clause and I am not envisioning a scenario in which Watson would want to come to Carolina. Right now our biggest asset to offer is the receiving corps(which we might have to give up some of) and pitch of the "building for the future" of a franchise.

If I were Deshaun Watson, why would I want to go to a franchise mired in rebuilding that might have to give up enough assets that make the rebuild much more difficult? If I get to be Deshaun Watson in that scenario? Give me the 49ers, the Dolphins or maybe the Colts. That's about all I would be interested in.

Yessir.  I was looking at cap space earlier, and the Colts have plenty of it and the Dolphins have their share.  Neither of them would need to eat their own young in order to make this deal.  I can't imagine the Texans want to deal him to the Colts, but at some point they may not have a choice. 

The 49ers would be intriguing, too.  If they can find a home for Garoppolo, they are sitting in good shape. 

These are all teams that could part with high draft choices for the next couple of years and not kill themselves.  The teams are in decent shape, and the holes that are left can be addressed in FA.....since they would have the cap space to do so.  They can all win in the short-term.

I just don't see us in that situation.  If this situation came up in a year or two, maybe.

He has a no-trade clause.   Unless he doesn't want to win ever, he would most definitely nix that trade.   I think the fact he has the clause is what makes the Panthers an interesting choice.   When you look at teams that would probably want him we're one of the best landing spots.   Now we hired his old coach and he's from Georgia which isn't super far away.

Also your notably leaving out that this same Houston Texans team traded one of the three best WRs in football for a second rounder and a hurt RB

Yeah, the only possible scenario I see Watson here is in the forced trade, single team force scenario. In that world, perhaps we can get Houston to blink and give us a little bit more of a reasonable trade deal but I think we are talking about less than 1% likelihood of that kind of thing transpiring. 

For me, the Watson scenario has just been great fodder for discussion, so I am happy to have it for that reason alone. I am sure it will be an anticlimactic resolution in comparison to the debate surrounding where he could go.

      He was always the guy who didn't care about practice or being prepared. That works when you are a freak athlete and aren't in a position that has to do those things. What made Dion work as an athlete is what makes him a terrible agent. Yeah he has always been a pooshow. His kids probably think it's normal but Shaduer just paid the price big time.       This is also why in a way, I don't want T-Mac to get to 1,000 yards, because I think it means XL or Coker took a step back. While maybe that would be good for T-Mac's growth, I have absolutely zero, in fact, less than zero concern about T-Mac becoming THAT guy for us and being a Top 10 WR every year with legit Top 5 potential. And even though I have faith that XL and Coker can be that 2/3 combo next to T-Mac in the future, I have far more concern in the two of them getting there than T-Mac being that #1, so their growth is "more important" to me this season than T-Mac's, in that sense. Thielen's presence will suppress the numbers T-Mac/XL/Coker put up, but his presence is what is best for Bryce's growth, which is more important than anything with the WRs this year because we need to know if he's going to be that franchise QB for us. If Bryce already proved himself to be that guy, Thielen isn't even on the team this year and none of this is a debate, then yes, T-Mac would HAVE to put up 1k this season.

      I've gone back to buying Panthers merch for the first time in a couple of years. Have some optimism for the first time since we drafted Bryce, which quickly met it's downfall.  Don't fug this up, Panthers.
